Thursday morning we met my daughter and some of her Friends at her house in St. Pete and headed out to the causeway on the way to Ft. Desoto trying to catch the outgoing tide. Stopped at the Bait Bucket for shrimp, that guy can not count, 4 doz shrimp looked like 6-8. Cold, gray and windy, one lone Speckled Trout to show for our efforts, which of course went back. Packed up and went to the Gulf Pier where we saw two very nice Sheephead caught by one gentleman, nothing else. Sun tried to shine but could not quite get the upper hand. Water was cloudy and no bait fish. Nice to get out of the house though. Gave up around lunch time and headed back to Lakeland and a hot cup of coffee. Painter

Painter,
Don't feel bad man. I went out on my Kayak launching from the Boat Ramp at Fort Desoto hunting for flounder 12/30. Final tally was 0 fish, but a beautiful albeit cold start to the day. The sun did shine for a while making it a little easier to find the sand pockets but i think the water was just to darn cold. Still beats sitting around the house all day. Got some nice exercise. I paddled from the ramp to the gulf pass, stayed in the mullet key area all the way up to the flag, back to the ramps, to the other side of the bridge and then called it a day. The wind layed down pretty nice and for the portion on the day that was windy, the mangroves provided some nice shelter. When the water warms and the winds die, i will be taking my kayak on a gulf side trip. Although the fish tally was nill, i think i found some real promising warm temprature areas.
tight lines.
