Got to the SSP about 4:45am, about an hour after the beginning of the incoming tide. The plan was to fish the structure on the west side during incoming to drift out for gags, but I hadn't been there in a while and didn't realize they had closed off that whole side. What a waste of good structure. Mad about my plan not working out. Threw the gotcha looking for macks and the sabiki looking for greenies, no luck for either.
Headed for the NSP about 6:00am and picked out a spot on rocks between baithouse and restrooms. Fished the rest of incoming under the bridge for whatever might go for it, no bites. Hightide at 8:50am. Plenty of greenies for bait on the sabiki here as usual. Used primarily cut bait. Bites started about 9am. Landed 3 baby gags 12 inches or so and a few pinfish. Had two other good bites but got rocked and lost the hook. Stupid me using 30lb. Pp braid as line and leader. Could see where the rocks fraid and cut the leader right at the hook. Didnt run back with the pole fast enough to take him out of the cover Could have been a big one!
Didn't see a single mack come over the rail, and a lot of people seemed to be after them. Saw one 18-20 inch gag come over near the baithouse, but after 20 minutes of showing off and handling before throwing it back, probably didn't live to bite again anyway.
Left at 11:30 am. No grouper dinner this week.
