Alright beautiful day today , a bit windy but nothing too serious. Fished from 12:30 to 4:30. There were scattered bait under the piers but didn't see any schooling macks. Windy , but the current was moving moving nice , was able to hold bottom with about 1/2 ounce weight. Fished the pylons under the pier most of the day while soaking some pinfish. Using cut bait and dead shrimp peeled, manage to get two nice 10" plus black sea bass (i think) , threw them back in wasn't sure if they are any good to eat, few really big grunts which I threw back feeling nice. All in all great day. OH and the lizard fish were biting like crazy , caught like 5 of them , big ones too .

lutzfuji those black sea bass my opinion only are as good tasting fish as they come. They have to be at least 10 inches but for a 10inch fish they have a lot of meat. I hope they are plentiful this year. I would love to have some. The lizard fish you mentioned. I don't know if it was a coincidence or they really like them but the biggest black sea bass I seen on the pier was a 16' caught on a lizard fish by my friends buddy. I have used them when I caught them and have been broke off several times. Something likes them that's for sure. riverviewsteve USN Retired

Hmm. I caught a few small lizard fish , next time I'll use them as bait. Looked at some pics online they were definitely black bass. I hope they stay at the pier, haven't had any luck with snapper i've been targeting.

mackman I will definitely give that a try. I got to get a lizard fish first though. Use to get them pretty often but haven't gotten one for a long time. As far as the Grouper go. Keepers that is. I have never gotten one. I only been trying out there for 10 years. Can't rush a good thing. Ha! Got a 19" once so had to put it back of course. The wife got two 14" at the same time on a sabiki once. That was funny. Tuesday morning were going out again around 1am I hope and give it another try. I do hope some of them sea bass are around. Would like to get a couple of them two. Good to see you posting bud. Tight Lines riverviewsteve USN Retired

Fishing for Pomps a couple weeks back, the lizard fish were tearing up the Pomp jig. I have used them for bait, never had much luck, but I still try every so often.

Riverviewsteve , i've been trying to catch a grouper too for past year. At least your pulling in some. I've been hit probably twice or so and didn't even get a chance to pull em in keep getting cut on the rocks. I need to start holding the rod when I freeline em.
