Bridgetender I was on the NSP Wednesday morning and the bathrooms were pretty clean. At least the ones at the baithouse were. Can't really say about the other one. I been fishing the piers for 10 years and I have always found the NSP to be cleaner. Just my opinion. riverviewsteve USN, RETIRED

I hate to send my Mother into something that nasty. And probably won't, ever again... I mean come on I'd rather have clean restrooms than a "bait shop" out there. We have fished that place on and off well before it ever became a park, years ago..Oh well, good luck to you guys.Take care.

Let's Email them! I just did, let's see if it gets any response. Maybe if they get emails from all of us on the board it might get them to change. While I was at it I asked them to increase the frequency they empty trash cans on weekend, to also check all the lights, many are off, just normal easy maintenance stuff.
This is the contact info off their website...

Considering this is a State Park, the bathrooms are &*^king revolting ,, it's a tragedy but the Piers are dying a slow pitiful death,,, the clowns who are in charge are doing a poor job.
The SSP will go first,, bathrooms are appalling,, there's a rotting POS pontoon boat halfway up the pier (wtf is that about?) ,, lights are poorly maintained,, regulations not enforced,,,, it all adds up.
Make the most of it,,, I reckon 2 years at most before they get shut down.

Ok, heres the bottom line, as "I" see it. My opinion only. The north pier is much better, because a guy by the name, nickname atleast. Big Mike. works there. He is a very generous and friendly great person. That said. My opinion.... The piers are sentenced to death... The owners are trying to gain as much Capitol as possible. Its all about money. Why pay someone to clean something that may or maynot be there next year. that 7.25$ an hour saved every hour is capitol gain. Its a sinking ship. make as much from that whore as possible. before she dies. They got millions to maintain, where did that go? Someones hot pocket.... Aint gonna change... Downward spiral..............................

does anybody ever think they would sell the piers to a private individual or group. Or would it be to expensive for a person to take on. As they would come in later and say to pier needs to be repaired (structure wise) or we will close it after they got their money

As they would come in later and say to pier needs to be repaired (structure wise) or we will close it after they got their money why buy something that will eventually be condemned... They had a similar thing happen in pensacola with the 3 mile bridge.. It rotted away and fell in the bay,the parts that have not fallen will be blown to pieces soon.

Its allready privately owned.................. Its too far gone for any investor to even think about messing with................ But.. If i had the money... That 30 mil needed to repair it . I think would be made back in 10 years best...... But might be too late.

So who actually owns the piers? Being a State Park,, I kinda assumed the State owned it.

Unless something has changed...It is a State Park, with DOT being responsible for the pier itself and Pier Associates responsible for operating the bait shop and doing cleanup and restrooms.

the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) leased the property to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Division of Recreation and Parks (DRP) under a Lease and Maintenance Agreement for a term of twenty years with automatic twenty-year renewals . On February 13, 1995, DEP granted Pier Associates, Inc. an exclusive privilege to operate recreation and concession facilities and to provide goods and services at The Skyway Fishing Piers State Park. The agreement expired on March 31, 2005. Potential Uses and Proposed Facilities The north side of the fishing pier is developed for public use with adequate concession and restroom facilities. A full service restaurant is recommended on the north side pier structure. Compatibility with current recreational activities and the availability of parking should be primary considerations in designing this facility. The south side of the pier is currently operating with portable buildings. These are to be replaced with permanent structures which will include a tollbooth, sewage disposal and potable water, restrooms, a concession / bait and tackle shop, and fish cleaning tables. A welcome / visitor center is also recommended on the south pier. The proposed visitor center could feature natural and cultural interpretation of the area as well as general information about the state park system. Since funding for construction and staffing may be difficult to obtain, the possibility of a partnership with a local government or private enterprise should be considered. www.dep.state.fl.us/parks/planning/parkplans/SkywayFishingPierStatePark.pdfso go complain to the state parks , florida dot , and Pier Associates, Inc. or a group of yall go to the bait shop and get bleach and other cleaning supplys and clean it once in a while , when i was going to the pier i cleaned them a few times a few times

"the proposed visitor center could feature natural and cultural interpretation of the area as well as general information about the state park system. "
I have to chuckle at this, every once in a while when I'm in the SSP bait shop I will see the sightseers wander in looking for the historical display...to which the guy behind the register points to that poster and news clipping over by the ice!

So, i have a meeting with the SSP Manager on Sat. a.m., she wants to discuss face to face the issues I reported to her. I guess that's a good gesture...but an even better one is just taking care of the place!
Will be interesting to hear what she has to say.

Will be interesting to hear what she has to say. the bathrooms will be clean and she will be in complete denial... what you need to do is grab a video camera before Saturday.. and interview some of the people going in and out of the bathrooms on Wednesday and Thursday..ask them what they think ? then show her the video, heck you could even turn it over the channel 8 or channel 13..let them go to town with it.. imo the bait shop on ssp doesn't smell much better than the bathrooms. let us know what happens.

No, didn't meet, she changed times, I couldn't make it, decided I didn't want to hear why they can't keep them clean, just want them clean! So I sent her a detailed email on how she could improve the situation out there with simple tips.
We'll see what happens.
