Hey guys, So i have been spending a lot of time on my Kayak lately, i love being able to move from spot to spot, love the backwater, and its so quiet and un-crowded. So on to my topic. I was reading some magazines talking about blue crabs and with stone crab season opening, i got the crazy idea that i could crab out of a kayak (blues not stones). So off to southeastern i went, dying to try my hand at my late mom's recipe for blue crab and spaghetti. A couple bucks later i walked out with 2 traps and was ready to rumble. So time to check the tides, Yes!!! full moon tides Friday, Sat, Sun. Went to work Friday morning with crab on the brain, and kayak in tow. Finally, its 5 O'clock, time to pick up some mullet bait, and set the traps. Time in the water, less than 1 hour. Got home in time for some Mexican Food, beer, and baseball. Woke up about 7am, went to pick up the traps like a kid on Easter Sunday, waiting to find his bounty, also hoping that no one would mess with my recreational traps. (Side note: I tried my best to give the commercial guys a wide berth, out of courtesy) Total Tally, two traps: 34 blue crabs What a blast. I hadnt been crabbing since i was 13. Hoping to make it to the pier soon though, cant wait to do some mack fishing. Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Emmmmmmmm Second best edible bait...... Right behind Calamare, Then Skrimps.....
Sounds like a pretty inventive way to fish, and shellfish.
Now share some with me, dont be shellfish

I make my own sauce from scratch (mom's old old recipe), but basically, once you have a sauce you like. I like to take the claws and i crack them so that the sauce can penetrate the shell. Then i just simmer the sauce with the claws inside until the crab is fully cooked.
Generally, i steam the crabs for 5 minutes to get the meat solid before going into the sauce.
Thats really about it. If i want more of a meat sauce, i will pick the bodies after steaming them and get about a pound of crab meat. Once i do this, i just add to the sauce as it simmers. This allows the flavor of the crab and sauce to mingle and is great right over pasta.
thats it.
enjoy.

sounds great. does the crab penetrate the ragu much or is it just a nice morsel in the sauce?
oh and just to add my sgetti sauce recipe (not to hijack)...
Get some hot italian sausage cook in a pan, pour into some simmering sauce of choice. In the same pan brown hamburger meat and dump in after draining. Simmer for a while, everybody thats tried it likes it
