Easy to fix. Go during the day. From sun up to whenever. Nothing really good bites at night unless you are shark fishing. Buy a cast net, catch some bait or even ask someone that has a net for some bait. Most of us will help someone out. Cut the large bait into 2 or 3 pieces and use the smaller ones(up to 4 inches) whole. Best to hook them in the nose so it looks like they are swimming in the current or on the retrieve. Use a mono or fluorocarbon leader starting at 4 ft long. Use a size 1 or 1/0 silver j hook without any weight. Loosen your drag slightly to prevent break offs. If the current is coming in then cast out as far as you can. Let it drop a little reel in the slack as it comes back towards you. Lift the bait every once and a while to keep it off the bottom. If the current is going out then just drop your bait straight down and give it a little slack as it drifts out. Hold on to pole and never just lean it against the rail with your bait in the water because if a mackerel doesn't take it a pelican will. Good luck!

Go to NSP and talk to BigMike at the bait shop and he'll get you set up right. your going to want to get some bait along the pier, pinfish, greenies, white bait. AND start soaking them live, cut, dead, etc. Use heavy tackle for the grouper. medium for the Mango's if they are still around. anticipate lots of spanish mackeral, some kingfish, and jewfish

welcome aboard. The simple quick fix to get the kids involved, not knowing their ages. Hook them up with a sabiki rig and let them catch pinfish (er bait for dad's grouper fix) all day long. Something about kids, they just have a knack for this. If they are old enough and coordinated enough, get some silver spoons and a 1 or ounce weight. Cast as far as possible, count to two and then real that bad boy in. The weight holds the spoon down, and the speed and flicker from the spoon will undoubtedly attract a mack or two. They are fun, and do all the work when it comes to setting the hook. You may have to try a couple time, but sure bet is to look for the bait schools getting crashed. If the tides are right it is only a matter or time this time of year. Good luck, just ask around, the regulars on the pier are always willing to show someone new the ropes, especially when they are teaching a kid to fish.
tight lines,
Jason
