Snuck out for some Friday evening fishing, from about 6 to 10 p.m....no greenbacks to be found, caught some pins...tide was outgoing....also tried some cut pins...little to no action, esposa managed a short gag....around 16 incher, back he goes to grow up. I had just put a pinfish head on a 4/0 hook, using 50 lb. leader, 50 lb. ppro...and whammo get a big bite that pops my ppro at the swivel. wtf! Other than those two incidents, nothing else doing. Same up and down the pier, just nothing coming over the rails.
We come back for incoming Sat. a.m.around 10 a.m., plenty of big baits running deep, filled the bucket with big threadfins...and a few pins and fished the turn to incoming...I started with cut bait under a float and got a nice hit that beat me to the rocks....I had to break off. A little later I look over and wife's wrestling her rod....I go over to help, seems to be ducking and darting like a red grouper, but when she gets him to the surface, a gag! And I pull it up and I think it's going to be a keeper....take it to the tape and....and....squeeze that tail...and....and...lined up...and.......22.0" on the button! Yea!
I floated one more live greenie...got an odd set of tugs....one tug.....two tug......three tug...then BAM ...a good yank but....no hook up. Maybe flipper but more like a snapper bite...like they like to do...tap tap but this was tug tug...I remember one of the guys last week saying he caught a 20 inch. mango on a pinfish...might have been.
Anyway, it was now mid day...scorching hot....and we had dinner in the cooler so it was time to call it a day! I have got to remember to put the camera in the truck to show the catch...next time.
