Its been a while since I posted a fishing report...hopefully there will be more to post in the coming months...
Went on my first ever party boat trip on the Sea Spirit out of Ponce Inlet...it was a good time, didnt catch much, it was a pretty slow day, but the weather cooperated and it was a nice day on the water.
Lots of Atlantic Sharpnose sharks in the 3ft range were caught, probably about 30 or so for the boat...other than that the most plentiful catches were, Vermillion Snapper and Black Sea Bass...all keepers were BARELY keepers, in the 12-13 inch range. The biggest catches for the boat were a 3lb Triggerfish, a 5lb Flounder, and a 6lb Mango Snapper. Plenty of key west grunts, but I didnt see any big ones. I was surprised how small most of the fish were as far out as we were (30 miles or so). Not a single grouper was caught...and the day before (Sat), 2 keeper Cobia were landed, but there were none to be found Sunday.
I did manage to catch a couple of nice ARS, and a 3ft Sharpnose. My ex caught a keeper Vermillion (they call em Redeyes), and that was it for us as far as keepers go. The guy fishing next to us didnt want to take his fish home, so he gave them to us, he had 5 small keepers...there were also plenty of leftover sharks, the captain was giving them away left and right, so we left with a mix of 6 small keeper Snapper and Bass, and 4 sharks.
Overall a fun day...I always hear bad reports of party boats, but I gotta say the Capt and crew of this one were great - very professional and personable, and the people we fished by were friendly and fun to hang out with. We gave the mates a nice tip and had them clean our fish for us. The only thing Id do different next time is take my own gear and live bait, even though I dont think the guys who took live bait did any better than the rest of us. It was just one of those days.
No regrets though, glad my 1st party boat trip was fun.
The Sea Spirit:
My massive haul after the freebies...lol
