Snookmook thank you for sharing that storiy. It makes me feel good when someone gets their closure from that war and any war for that matter. I happen to be more affected by that one because I spent so much time off the coast of that place. I was out there supplying ships for something like 36 months over all. Not all at once of course but over the several years it went on. riverviewsteve MCPO, USN, RETIRED 26 1/2 YEARS and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Not that the wife would let me.

RVS--I'm glad you all appreciated the link. I remember being back in Catholic elementary school back in Jersey and our teacher, a nun, had us write to one of our classmates's older brother who was an infantry grunt humping the bush during the war. This was back in 68. He loved his monthly letters from his little brother's classmates and we also started to write some of his platoon mates as well.
I remember to this day when our teacher read us a letter saying one of them had been KIA. I remember all the girls crying including the nun and my buddy's look of concern thinking about his brother.
Thankfully his brother, Private Perez of Maywood/Hackensack, New Jersey, made it home in one piece after his year of rotation. I remember when he came to visit us in his dress uniform. I'll never forget the look of his little brother Orlando when he walked in with his uniform on. Orlando was new to the school and the only Puerto Rican kid in my class of mostly Catholics of western Euro descent, but he had many friends.
Thanks to all the vets who have served.

Thanks for sharing that snookmook that was very touching. I know when they had mail call some of us got mail regularly and others hardly ever got any. I was lucky I had lots of relatives and friends so I got plenty. I'm sure some of those that didn't would have loved to get some letters from the kids just to let them know they weren't forgotten. riverviewsteve
