hi everyone, I'm new to this forum. My name is Marcin(Marsin). I have been fishing on the skyway peir off and on for 10 years. I just found this website and i think its great. I havn't fished the skyway much since they closed half of it down. It seems to be way too crowded now. But im going to give it a try again. Im going out on friday night. I usually fish the south pier and had decent luck. Catching macks, grouper, mangos, and once a nice 20" hogfish. Im just wondering which pier is better at this time of year. I mostly want to catch snapper, grouper and maybe get lucky hook up to a cobia. Also i saw some reports of you guys seeing squid. I wouldnt mind catching some of those too to fry up. Where do you see squid? When i was younger i used to live in washington state and we would get lanterns near the water and the squid would show up. Then we would jig them up with special jigs. I will be in a 97 green toyota tacoma reg cab if you want to say hi.

Welcome to the forum.I don't know about squid , I haven't been out there in a while. But you might see crabs and shrimp floating by if you have a net.The south side is longer you will have more space out there the fishing can be quiet good on both sides it can be a hit or miss type deal.

you will get all kinds of opinions regarding NSP vs SSP. Me I like the NSP.
Reports of the squid came from Big Mike from the NSP. I hear snapper on the NSP too but sure they are on SSP too.
Welcome to the forum

How do you work those squid jigs? Do you let it drop to the bottom then retreive or jig it up and down. Thanks!

I lift the rod tip up and down gently. Almost like using a DOA shrimp but without the retrieve.
tight lines

Yes you can put it in the water as it is water tight. You can have it float on the top, or put a weight on it and send it down a bit. But I hang it just over the water like you would a lantern for snook fishing.
I get them online, e-bay has quite a few of them (be careful of the quality) but I'm sure some of the local shops would have them (i.e.. south eastern)

Cool jigs. These are ones i got in Washington Sate. They are hand made. I have caught many squid in the Puget sound with these. You can click on them to get a better view. Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Thanks for the info, the jigs I use only glo in the lowe section. I have a few that I painted with glo paint. Good luck with your trip. My name is Zach by the way.
