Ok so started out the friday morning about 230am. Tied on a big 8 hook sabiki and started hitting ladies at the beginning of the bridge before it splits into two. Caught a few short mangos also. As my brother was chasing mangos i was on the hunt for the silver king (POON) Tossed out some threadfins and got a hookup in about 5 minutes under the pylons. I was using my penn 113h with 80lb power pro line and a 50lb floro leader with a 5/0 trokar lazer sharp hook. 1 minute into battle the line goes slack.....Oh crap he is making a run to FT. D As the line goes tight again he rockets out of the water about 3 feet and tosses my threadfin back at me smiling as he went back into the depths. No more luck in that spot so we decided to kill some time goliath fishing until the tide turned about 5 am and then we could start rigging up for grouper. Tossed out a shiny lady and about 30 mins later......click click click........errrrrrrrrrrrrrr.. Drag starts screaming. I set the hook and blammo fish on. After about 10 seconds i am realizing the fish is not swimming back to the pylons. What the heck, oh wait a shadow. $HIT a huge sea turtle about 6-7 feet. I wanted to cry for hooking such a beautiful specimen. I made sure he did not struggle for long and i got my razor pole for cutting line and cut the line right at his shell and off he went.
Time for a nap no more goliath fishing.
Wake up about 530am and heard some bait popping and getting slammed. It was still pretty dark so just for giggles i toss out a blue and silver mirrolure mirrodine. As soon as it hit the water blammo fish on. 28" ladyfish. Caught 3 more bigguns and then flipper decided to show up.
Now it is silent.
Got a headache, ate a snickers. took another nap.
Sun is up now and macks are punishing the bait. Tossed out the spoon and nothing. Tossed out the cast net and wrangled up about 1000 greenies. Roughly 3" Flipper showed back up and silence again.
Here is what everyone has been waiting for. WTF!!!!
Tide was about to be slack about 11am or so and i decided to toss out some greenies for chum. Here are the macks. Tossed out a dead greenie and blammo 24" mack on. Wait, Wait a tarpon is following it in, no, no, its a kiing! No thats not it WTF is it. Disappeared. After this i was determined to find out what this fish was casually following my bait in. Rigged up my 6/0 with 300lb steel and a 6/0 gomagatzu circle hook just in case. Tossed out more chum and blammo another mack. Lets see what happens when i leave the mack in the water. Whats that shadow.....its...its...
A 7 FOOT CUDA!!!!!
Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god.
He grabbs the mack and takes off faster than a top fuel dragster at gator nationals. Set the hook and line limp. Damn lost it. Ok well lets try for more macks. chum, chum chum....toss out blammo nice mack. I reel in as fast as i could and he just misses my mack. Tossed my mack on the 6/0 rod and sent him back out.
What happens next?
this cuda swallows a 20" mack whole and gives me the the best 2 minute fight i have ever had. Got him to the pier and was getting my camera while my brother held the rod. A boater slowly trolled under the pier and line got tangled into the trolling motor and got cut off. There was about 12 people screaming at this guy. He told us oh well you shouldnt be fishing there. Thats ok because we broke his trolling motor.
I think this was just an unlucky day for me but the lucky thing is that i got to identify the WTF!!!
hope you enjoyed my report
