was fishing out at fort d today trying to get some snapper, had 30 lb leader and half ounce weight with only an inch long greenback. Get hooked up and boy is this fish fighting, heard it break the surface under the pier so I figure its a large snook or red. After about 15 min I get it out and oh its a nurse shark neat and its got another one with it.
Wait a minute...Thats a COBIA! a good solid 20-30 pounder. Fight for a little while longer looking around for someone with any type of net no luck. Hes on his side with the occasional burst of energy but I got someones old line wrapped around mine. Spend another 5 min as some guys caught the line with their spoon and cut. Now time to walk him down to the beach.
Take 2 steps and the hook gives way... Oh man, almost had #1 on my fish to catch list checked off. On a positive note tho had a state trooper pull next to me at a light on the way home and ask me to put on my seat belt instead of giving me a ticket

Yeah GD I remember the hole in your net a year or so ago. I would say its almost identical, the fish is played out and its yours you know it, now for the part that should be a given, net it or walk it down...Aargh, gonna give it another try tomorrow, maybe float out a crab on a bobber or light weight on my big pole sounds like they are running right now

might even buy a big snatch hook and some rope instead of having to haul around a net

Yup, Ive been seeing a good number of reports of people catching or seeing them around lately...now might be the best time to get one...of course theyre not really targetable from shore unless you see em and sight cast to em...otherwise theyre just usually a lucky by-catch.
Heres hoping for some good luck this weekend!!!!

Tyler I was there, I helped you with the seagull and went looking for a landing net. Too bad my wife could not get a pic before he got away. Man what a heartbreaker. Better luck next time. No1painter

thanks alot man, I had forgotten to bring a towel and I never had the seagulls so bad out there, usually its the pelicans and I dont need a towel for those but the gulls break the skin when they bite. But neat its cool to finally meet someone off of here
