We fished the last hour and a half of the incoming tide and then hung around to fish a while on the outgoing. Initially we fished the east side. Unfortunately, there was little happening. I caught one barely legal mack on a Sabiki rig. The only other decent fish I saw was a mango snapper that a young girl down to our left picked up. I did get a quick run on a life pinfish but whatever mouthed him never bit and left my bait totally intact with no teeth marks. He was still feisty so put him back in and actually fished with him the rest of the night. We were fishing about half way between the bait house and the bathroom. Perhaps there was more going on other places on the pier but it was not happening where we were. We tried lot of different baits and different depths but no real success. We fished under the pier, out from the pier, and near the pilings. In other words, we tried everything we knew. Float rigs, bottom rigs, double droppers, and free lines were all tried.
Once the tide really started flowing out we went to the other side. I had the same live pinfish out plus we tried cut bait as well as cut shrimp. The only takers were a few pinfish. Greenbacks were few and far between on the Sabiki rig. We fished until about 10:30 and packed it in. There was a young ex-Marine fishing near me who was using very small live shrimp. He just got picked clean all night long.
We had also fished about the same time slot Friday night also and the results were about the same.
I know there are schools of fish going and coming but it seems like there are no real ground fish in abundance. The only fish consistent are pinfish. And of course we are getting into the summer doldrums.
But I'm also reminded that a bad day fishing is ALWAYS better than a good day working. I had a nice time kicking back with my wife with our lines in the water.
Good luck fellow anglers.
