Got to south pier around noon, to catch the final hours of an incoming, caught a few large greenbacks to float under the pier and first one got a hit and bait plucked...no hookie. Second one...a nice hit and fun fight, but only a 20 inch shorty....Third out....another nice hit but a smaller 17 inch shorty...then number four....BANG POW....wtf? It just started pulling drag....and I tried to hold on but it pulled drag almost to the end of my 200 yds...was going left pulling against the pier and finally the breakoff!! It was acting like a ray, staying down or so it seemed and pretty steady pull. But who knows. So, that was about as the tide was slacking moved to outgoing, not much from the grouper camp, although a fellow and his two kids were slaying the snappers on live shrimp...looked like they limited out over about 3 hours...but they were mostly on the small side. I couldn't pay a snapper to bite squid or greenbacks. Saw a guy pull in a 21 inch gag a little way down from me. A good day anyway, caught a few, didn't bring any home...but that's ok sometimes.
