Hey Guys, I have recently began to target the goliath down there on slow days when the grouper and mack don't keep me busy. I love the south pier and prefer to fish there. Any tips on good spots on the pier to catch them? Also, I prefer ladyfish and macks as bait but can only get my hands on mullet ranging around 16-18"s. Anyone know of a bait shop that sells ladyfish or macks? I normally catch ladyfish so it isnt an issue but would like to have a few frozen ones just in case. Any help would be great!

They sell or used to, bonita/false albecores in the north pier bait shop. Try a huge chunk of that. My question to you is, How do you release a goliath 15 feet below you?

I would never think about even attempting to take one out of the water, but instead just cut the line. So far, the few I've hooked have cut the line for me =).

SSP all the way at the end on the crosswalk. Seems this season they have been biting on the incoming for the first hour. I have caught them on whole stingray, bonita, mullet, mackerel, ladyfish, blue runner, blue crab, a monster pinner, and a partial kingfish i wrestled away from flipper.
I have pulled one up and it is about 400+ lbs so make sure your tackle is up to par and remember if he runs to the left pylon you run to the right one to gain a little leverage so he doesnt wrap you. If it is crowded then just pray he swims straight but i have never had that happen. Good luck

Just wondering, do you have a means of cutting the line above the hook or are you cutting it at the pole. Have seen some devices for doing that, just can't remember where.
