I just polished of chumming the rest of my bait from last summer, and was wonering if anyone on the pier has much success out there chumming? I have always chummed up fish where ever i go and i know it will work to some extent, but just never see anyone doing it at the pier. Any input? Thanks

On a soft tide at night, can really get the snapper going.

When I was a kid, we would vacation at Mayo's Cottages in Indian Rocks Beach. John, the owner had an old meat grinder he would use to grind up greenbacks and start a chum line. He would catch them in an umbrella net and kept them in a live well on the pier. It seemed to work pretty well to attract the Mackerel. The place was just north of the big Indian Rocks pier location. All the free bait, greenbacks and fiddler crabs you wanted. Sometimes he would take some of us kids over to the Bay Pines causeway to catch the fiddlers at low tide. We would herd them like cattle into a croaker sack. Later, Painter

I would take two chum blocks put in a five gallon bucket over night and the next day put water about half way and what ever else you want to chop up in small bits. Mix well most make sure its not a thick chum because you don't want to feed them you just want to make them swim in the slick towards you then cast out some cut baits like gback or sardine not to big and you should get some macks or what ever else follows the chum slick. I did this over the years on the nsp and had Bonito, macks, trout, bluefish come up on top. drop one or two scoops of chum every two or three mins.... to try and get them going good luck.
