and the bite was pretty good too Went out to fort desoto this morning for a little flats action near east beach. Got there around 8:00 after picking up my shrimpy shrimp from the bait bucket; all they had were regulars. Wind was blowing pretty hard out of the SE for about the first 2 hours which made freelining difficult. Ended up putting on a popping cork to give it some weight and keep it out of the grass. managed a few 13" trout and then finally around 10:00 the wind died down. Started freelining shrimp and all of a sudden it was one trout after another. They were so worked up into a frenzy that they were hitting it as soon as it hit the water. it was kinda funny to watch the shrimp try to jump out of the water to avoid them! After a while it didn't matter if I threw dead shrimp, live shrimp, half shrimp or even artificial. Most were in the 13-15" range and a few that might have been pushing 17 or 18". When the bait ran out I broke out the DOA combo and caught a few more small ones. The mullet started moving in around the end of the high tide so I broke out the gold spoon in hopes of getting a red. No red for me but did get 2 more trout on the spoon. Finally called it a day at 1:00 because my arms were too tired to cast again. Might try to get out to the SSP tonight for some snapper. tight lines!

Nice day.
Are the snappers at the skyway? I have not had much luck finding them this spring. I thought maybe the cold winter send them off shore to deeper warmer water.
MMMM Snnnnaaaaaappppppper sandwichs. Got-a-lovem

Great report. It is amazing how a wind shift or difference in wind intensity can either turn them on or off....glad to hear you were on the right side of them getting turned on today. I haven't tried wading any flats yet since I've been here but have been thinking about it.

The Fort is on my list of places to fish this year. Maybe a Pier Rat picnic at FDS. I think it may be time for us all to get together. Wives, Kinds, Grandkids, Hotdogs, hamburgers and grilled freash caught fish. Anyone interested? Maybe the week before or after father's day?

Another spot is South by the maintenance area on the Bay side. Be careful, there are some killer holes. We have not fished it this year yet, but last year it produced some nice Trout and Reds.

Sounds like an area I used to fish...lost a shoe in the muckout there once. let me know if you find a size 12 reebok!
