I normally don't spin fish tales but I have to get opinions on what this was. We were having a pretty good day with mack and blues, when I hooked about a 14" mack. It pulled like one twice that size, and after seeing what we deemed a LARGE cobia I knew why. Of course I had to leave it in there, knowing full well at best I'll have a 2 second battle. The alleged cobia proceeded to bite the back half of the mack off, wolfed it pretty quick then turned to swipe the head of the mack. As predicted, the hook popped off, almost like it was cut, leading me to believe this beast may not have been a cobia as they have no teeth if I'm not mistaken, and it also bit the mack into two pieces pretty easily. I don't have a lot of experience seeing cobia, but this thing was dark brown and looked like one to us.
Anyone have similar experiences or any thoughts on this? Thanks.

I would say Barracuda, except for the Brown part. There have been some around.

I would bet "Bull Shark" They are very similar in shape to a Cobia.

Could've been bull shark, only two witnesses say cobia due to the color. I'll see if I see him again today. Hopefully try the same spot if the crowd isn't out already.
