Wooohoooo I finally caught a keeper! Got out to the SSP at around 10 this morning and caught pinners and whitebait for awhile until the tide changed. Hooked a very large mackerel on the biggest whitebait I had but when I was getting ready to haul him up he shook his head a few times and cut my leader. Meanwhile I had a large pinner soaking and while I was retying he got hit and after a nice fight on my 25lb test over came my first keeper. When I got him near the pier he went under me and stopped dead, I thought I was gonna lose him but he came out. Anyways heres a few pics.

Woohooo..way to go dude. Your hooked for life now...look out groupa. I'd beef up that tackle a little if I were you. The only thing they understand is brute force.

Awesome! And a great dinner upcoming. My wife makes a dark beer batter to coat and deep fry the filets, the coating comes out light and flaky almost like tempura batter....man, getting hungry!
Way to go get 'em.

Well done! I too have yet to get that elusive keeper. Caught a few shorties today, one fought me like a keeper, but a few inches short.

Sure, my wife says it is "just a slightly modified Betty Crocker recipe" but anyway, here you go...
For 1 lb of fillets 3/4 c all purpose flour 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp baking soda 1 tbsp vinegar 3/4 c dark beer
Mix all dry ingredients, stir in vinegar and beer mix until smooth
Dry the fillet Dip in batter Drop into oil until brown ~ 5 min or until done
