Got to ssp around noon... shoulder to frikken shoulder fisherpeople..they must have raked in a fortune yesterday, it was a zoo, people throwing and cranking, kids running everywhere, the word is definitely out that the mackies are back in town and everyone wants some.
Anyway, squoze into a spot, fished what was left of an incoming, again no issue finding pinners of all sizes...but I was't able to fish any of my normal spots so really more of a guessing game which resulted in a big fat skunkfish on that side.
Tide turned around 2 p.m...found a small gap to stick my snoot into to cast, fortunately people to both sides were jigging so left me with casting room away from the pier....fished outgoing with everything from cut bait, to frozen squid, to pinners and again the skunk...that's when I know I'm fishing the "desert" the sand between the rockpiles...barren and lifeless! Tried a few other spots, but I kinda hate to encroach, what kills me is on a day like that, there's one or two guys with 8 rods out...taking up a full 50 feet of the pier...c'mon, you can't fish 8 rods!
I think I'll stay away from weekend days for a while.

Nothing like a weekend on the pier. Of course you could remind them of the 2 rod rule. I believe its printed on the back of the entry pass now.

I completely agree about the 2 rod rule. It is written on the darn pass you get when you go in. If there is one thing that should be enforced is the number of rods people use. Not much room out there on weekends and makes me sick when I drive the length of the pier, can't find a spot to fish and see 8-10 rods spread out, lines in water and people not even around them. Just rude. The pier should do something about this.

Rude and impossible to fish that many rods.
I was next to a guy last year, he had 6 rods out...and those little clip on jingle bells on all of them...he would jig in the alley for bait...a rod would "jingle"...by the time he'd dropped his bait rod, ran across, and got to his rod....guess what....RRRRROCKED. Entertaining as hell though.

One of the things that convinced me to stop fishing out there. I only had weekends off. Also, the boats trying to fish right next to the pier, usually right where I had my lines out, or trolling parallel to the pier, 50 ft out over everyone's lines. Got to be too much for my blood pressure. - David

I was surprised today....wasnt quite as crowded as I expected...although it wasnt dead by any stretch...
But its not hard to move in on those 50 yard space-taker-uppers with wayyyyy too many rods...just ease into their space and they usually get the hint and pull a few rods to make some room....
I also love it when those people get to the rod too late and find themselves rocked up....WHAT THE F DID YOU EXPECT WHEN YOURE 50 YARDS AWAY WHEN A GROUPER SLAMS YOUR BAIT?!?!?! lol

Yea, I've learned the hard way that you really have to pay attention to the rod or just never put it down, have had more than my share of rock ups. Now at least I have a fighting chance when those little freight trains turn toward the rocks.
