We just started fishing and are not having any luck at the pier. Im not sure if we am doing something wrong. Can anyone tell me what specifics i need to catch something at the skyway ( what kind of hooks, leader, line , weights ect) . Were going out this weekend hoping to catch something. Thanks!

my advice to someone that is just gettin started and just wants to get a bend in the rod for now is... use shrimp and dont use too big of a hook, i use 2/0 circles for everything except grouper and tarpon. fish it anyway you want. i freeline it on the outgoing at night or i put a few splitshots on and cast it out or under the bridge depending on the tide.

i don't claim to be a great angler, in fact, if i get thru the day without cutting a finger or hooking myself it's miraculous. the mistake i see most is a huge weight 3 inches from the hook. the way i learned was walking up to the guys pulling em in and asking what they're doin. been fishin here 7 years and still learnin.
