Heading out to fish the Fred Howard Causway on 3/29 then heading out to the SSP early in the morning on 3/30. Don't know what I'm doing at the causway, but I'm going to give it a whirl. Hoping to fight a few Gags on Tuesday, hoping for some good baitfish and I'll probably catch my first keeper, knowing that I have to throw the stinker back. I'll let ya'll know how things go, and maybe I'll have a few pics to share. If anyone is out there I'll be in a white Chrysler minivan with pier rat sticker on the back.
Happy Hooking,
Chris

If I was to hit the SSP before Thursday, I dont think I'd even try for grouper...it'd be too heartbreaking to have to throw back a keeper...
Good luck though, and post some pics if you get anything!

Thats why I have been waiting to go until friday. I would hate to throw back a keeper. That would really hurt. I'll be on the ssp black nissan frontier, peir rat sticker on rear window. stop by and say hey.
Should see you out there Jack

Yeah I know what you mean about going out before grouper season starts, but when you have an opportunity to go, you take it. My father-in-law is in town and wants to go fishing, and he loves Skyway... so off we go. Anyway this morning we hit Fred Howard. First I've been there fishing since the remodel and they did a really nice job on the two bridges. I'm not sure how much you'll catch there, being the water is very shallow in that whole area, but it is a very nice place to fish. Under the bridge were loads of mullet, but I wanted something smaller... so I broke out the sabiki... there were pinfish everywhere under the bridge, I would put small pieces of shrimp on the bottom three hooks and get three pinners EVERYTIME. Anyway here are some pics of my son, my father-in-law and myself... so you can check it out: Any thoughts on North or South for tomorrow morning? ?? getting there early early... Almost forgot..... didn't catch anything in two hours windy fishing!!!!

Not alot to report today, pickins were slim. Got out there around 6:30am and setup, it was windy as all get out. couldn't find any whitebait to save my life. Put some shrimp on the sabiki and caught a few pinners. My son hooks into a grouper (figures) swings it up and it was just a junior (about 15"), so we keep on fishing... next my son's rod just starts rotating in the holder. So he's yelling "I'm stuck" and I informed him that rocks do not move... So he keeps on fighting to reel in line. After a few minutes... to the surface comes this big stingray. There was no way I was getting this thing up on the pier, so some young ones came running down with a pier net. When they got it down there the ray was bigger than the net. As we are trying to get it up, the line broke and away he went. Anyway was much going on, did catch catch a few greenbacks but not enough to speak of... So final count was: 1 grouper (junior) 1 black sea bass (junior) 1 Ray bout a doz greenbacks bout three doz pinners Unfortunately the pic of the day has no fish in it. Tight lines Chris

Nice report, even if you didnt have too much luck. 3 dozen pinners? Thats not exactly BAD news....Thats what Im gonna be shooting for for bait this weekend....at least until the greenies show up in FORCE.
And it sounds like you were fishing the incoming for the most part...I prefer the outgoing for freelining pins...although Sunday is gonna be an all day incoming...
Also, I like the mention of a Black Bass being caught....Theyre always welcome in my cooler, so maybe there are some bigger ones around.
