So I left gainesvillle at about 7pm weds night. Got there around 9ish and looked for bait. the darn mantles on my propane latern were crap, and i burned the back ups too. The guy at the bait shop told me walmart was only 7 miles away. Woohoo caught about 8 greenies left em in the bucket. looked for sheepies and macks but it was just too late/dark. Went to sleep
Woke up at around 6am to get a good mack spot. pointless. Today was a total bust with the typical mack fishing, the water was still too cold and they were only hitting the very bottom and only under the rail. Tried the top action for nearly an hour before I just watched the others go for the bottom without success. gave up on the sunrise rush and decided to go for grouper. another disapointment.
On my way back down to the mack spots I met a friend. Funny thing he was no where near the dumpsters and still caught macks. just using a 3oz and a spoon. the trick was to cast near the rail. we nailed em left and right almost on every cast. I think he limited out. I took home 11 (biggest one was 20") On one of my casts something big hit and it started flying towards the gulf. Not sure if it was a King or a dolphin. either way my leader broke. After the tide changed the macks disappeared and the wind picked up to about 15+
Recommondations: bring plenty of spoons, 1-4oz lead weights, big roll of leader
I lost all my spoons and my weights and not to mention a top half to my ugly stick if anyone happens to pick that up someday
