arrantzale don't discount the lizardfish to fast. The largest black sea bass I ever seen caught on the north pier was a 16" on one by a friend of mine. Ever since then when I get one I put it in the water immediately. I have been broke off 4 times with lizardfish on and have yet to see any of what I caught. I suspect maybe Goliath Groupers or Rays but not sure. They definitely got my attention though. I hadn't caught any lizardfish in a long time. So hope I get another chance. Tight Lines riverviewsteve

I second the lizardfish.. Great grouper bait.. 2 of my 4 keepers from the skyway north pier came from live lizards. the other 2 were cut ladyfish chunks..

eaglesfanguy I been fishing the north pier for about 8 years and still haven't put a keeper in my cooler. I was using them lizardfish right under the pier. Probably why I lost them so fast. Rubbing on the pier with the monster on the other end whatever it was. The next one I catch I will definitely use for grouper bait. I haven't caught one in ages. Glad to here they are showing up again. I have lost a couple of fish I am pretty sure were groupers after they got in the rocks. Tight Lines buddy may your cooler collect a lot of fish. Hope mine gets a few too. I'm not complaining. Last friday I got 3 nice silvers and monday I got 4 keeper macks and a silver. Enough for me and my wife. If I caught to many at once I wouldn't have an excuse to go so often. Just one time I would like to limit out though just to see what it feels like. riverviewsteve

sand perch, blue runner, hell even those really flat fish that are really silvery work. I think they are some other kind of pinfish, anyways all good stuff. has anyone caught small pinkish yellow fish before? has the same black dot like a pinfish and doesn't get very big, Always seem to nag them when im pinfishing? i always threw em back.
Talk about saturday mack fishing, I don't know how the morning crew did but the afternoon was crap. Mack were holding down real deep and most likely took live bait that day. I saw some guy cutting up pieces of a small mack he caught and were catching more macks just using 1cm cube chunks. Caught about 4.

thanks for the info, the lizardfish were aggressive last week i prolly caught 5 or 6 for sure. next time i will throw him on the hook and see what happens. ive never targeted grouper but im going to this year, i will be there on thursday to see if i can manage some beginners luck.
i also have never caught anything to keep on the south pier. i fish the north pier 90 percent of the time but still the 5 or so times ive fished the south ive never done good
