Some of you on this board may have known him, most of you probably not, but my father passed away on February 24. He finally lost his battle with cancer. Thankfully he left peacefully. My dad instilled in me the passion of fishing. As far back as I can remember, he always took the time to take me fishing. Ever since moving down here, he loved the pier. I fished with him from time to time, (wish it had been more). You never appreciate what you have until it is gone. His last request was to be part of what he loved so much durring his life. At some point, I and my family will be returning his ashes to the sea. I will never forget what he taught me over the years. Every time I go to the pier, there will always be a part of him with me. Sorry for the downer, but I just had to get this out. I'll be back out there soon.

Chris.....Ole Salt's may pass on but are always there with us in the back of our minds......and always seem to give us a kick in the ass outta now where when we either don't set the hook just right, don't have the drag just right, forgot the bait, forgot the tackle box, or just plain forgot what they taught us way back when. Damn kids just don't listen. LOL.
The Ole Salt taught you well and you've passed that knowledge on to us ( a select few) throughout the years. Thanks.
My condolences of course. Cya in the same spot, same channel, same time. We got fishin to do. Enough of this weather.
Talk to ya bud.

Dive, I know you miss the old man, but do you know how lucky you have been? You had him there for you, showering you with love and teaching you in every way. I wish I were in your position because I never knew my old man. All I know of him is a picture that hung on the wall when I was a kid. That poor guy left this earth when I was ten months old.

sorry to hear about your lost. Keep him close to your heart.
I rememebr the first time my Dad took me fishing. It was at a stocked pond in Northeast Philly. I was about six years old. Had this old crappy casting rod. Dad told me to hold onto the rod until he got a worm to put on the hook.
Well being a cocky kid i could not wait and decide to try and cast it across the pond. Hook got stuck in an oak tree. Dad beig the champ he was climbed up the tree to get the hook out. Told me to open the bail but I did not listen and tried to yank the hook out of the tree. Right into his finger. He cursed like a sailoer and after he got the hook out we were in the car heading home. It was the last time he took me fishing but I did catch a 180lb fisherman.
I too lost my dad to a horrible illness a little over 18 months ago and miss him everyday. Recalling stories like the one above brings him back everytime. Your Dad is closer then you think. Just reach out to him with your heart and he will be there. Hnag in there. Thoughts and prayers are with you.
Fishon. He would want you too.

Sorry for your loss, Chris. It sounds like you had a great relationship with him, and that's something no one can ever take away form you. I'm sure he will be watching proudly from above every time you land a big one, wherever and whenever that may be.
See ya on the pier
Steve
