I'll be in Florida again this year during the 2nd and 3rd weeks of March. Any advice on good fishing spots that were not ruined with the cold snap in January? When would be a good time to hit the SSP, I was there last year with my brother, not much luck, only pulled 2 little ones over the rail and they weren't much bigger than the bait I was using.

I'll be staying in the Orlando area this year but I usually get out to both coasts to do some fishing. I usually fish the piers so that I don't have to buy a fishing licence but I think I might buy one this year so that I can do some surf fishing.

Coco Beach has a pier somewhere, I went there when I was really young but it has one hell of a current and alot of people. Saw some crazy dudes catch 2 feet Jacks and use them for goliath grouper bait, back then when you could land and release.

I have fished off the Cocoa Beach pier many many times, one of my favourite spots (there is a bar at the end of the pier) and have had pretty good luck, but all little ones. I'll be fishing off the Cocoa Beach pier and Skyway againg this year for sure but I wouldn't mind finding a couple new spots too. I would like to take my 4 year old son with me too this year but fishing off a pier like at Cocoa or off a busy bridge while trying to watch him makes me a bit nervous.

Take your son to Pier 60 in clearwater. Great peir for Kids. He can catch all the bait for you with a sabiki rig. If the water hits the majic number of 68-70 you should catch all kids of Mackeral. If you do go in the AM look for an older guy name frank. Ask him to set your rig up. you will do well.
The rails on the pier are very narrow. No way a kid can fall thur. Plus there is some shade to keep them out of the sun.

I fished off Pier 60 a couple of years ago, didn't have much luck, very windy and kept getting snagged on abandoned crab traps. I do remember the pier deck being close to the water with the end of the pier covered, it would make for a good spot to take my little guy fishing.
