Was out Saturday for a while. Grouper bite was on fire. Every bait i sent out got slammed. Caught 10 from 20" to 21-1/2" then got this 23". Put 5 nice Macks in the cooler for the smoker too.

Thanks Filletnrelease......good samich ya got too.How have the tides been? You guys been havin those dreaded "no tide"days?Come to realize ya can't depend a whole lot on a tide chart......mother nature has her own rules.I'm guessin ya was freelinin again also? How big a bait you fishin fillet?

Yeah, the skyway tides can be real strange at times. The wind picks up and the water seems to change directions or at least your bait does. I was freelining pin fish. They been running pretty good size with most 5"-6". Bigger the better.

Have ya tried focusing on LARGE BAITS..........like 10-12 inchers?Thats what i love about this time of year, the big azz baits seem to get crushed when ya sendem out.Tends to help me weed out the short fish.....but i have caught my share of short fish on a bait that is half the size of a gag.Amazin how a 21 inch gag will inhale a 12-13 inch bluefish or trout!EATING MACHINES them grouper .Have you tried the shallower waters on the ssp?Seen quite a few NICE fish come from pile 92-100......worth a looksie.

If I can catch em, I use em. Bluefish are one of my favorites, even a legal Mack will get em. Pile 80 to 100 is usually where I hang out.

I fish the second light poles on both piers at night with a white GOTCHA PLUG and usually do pretty good at fillin the live well with PERFECT size blues. If your on the nsp i'll get them all the way up to the y.White works the best though. And if your fishin at night you can get buy pretty easy with usin a short peice of wire.....save on the gotchas.
