ok.. this may seem like a dumb question to some... well... the only dumb question is the one thats not asked... lol.. ok thats a bunch of crap... but here goes... Anyone familiar with the Lowry park area of tampa? They have a boat ramp you can put ur boat in... etc... In that area.. is that freshwater or saltwater??? or both ive heard?? What kinda fish can be caught over there??? ive taken the little jon boat out there a few times to just run the motor... not to really fish... Ive only fished there about 2 or 3 times.. and everytime using a swimming sinko (fake worm) in hopes of getting a bass? What else can be caught there?? and using what kinda bait?? this is one of the places closer to my house so i would love to learn more about the area... I just dont know if its saltwater or freshwater.. as dumb as that sounds.. someone told me it was freshwater up until a certain point? then it turns to salt water??? can someone help me out, u guys always have all the answers... thanks in advance..

I grew up about 2 mins from the park, fished there every day. The water is brakish. There are snook, tons of gar, channel cats, never got alot of bass. Certain times of the year sting rays come throgh. There are also small scools of jack from time to time. There are also tons of mullet, you will see them jumping from time to time.
If you are looking for snook try under sly bridge at night, freeline a 4-6 inch nile perch.

Thanks for the reply! What's the best bait to use out there? Will squid and shrimp work at all?
What will catch a perch? Like what kinda bait? And I'm still unclear.but based off ur answer I'm guessing its saltwater??
What about bait for the gar and channel cats? When u fished everyday.. What kinda bait did you use?
And is the majority of the action caught on the bottom or under a bobber?
I ask because we been takin the jon boat down there a lot latelt.. Just to cruz.. We haven't fished much but I want to..
Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Yea I guess you could use squid or dead shrimp, but you more then likely will only get catfish. Live shrimp are naturally good for snook (I would free line, same deal for the live fish)
You can get the lil perch all through the creeks in the park on a small bread ball and tiny hook.
As for the gar I always used live fish(what ever I got in my cast net or in the creeks), free lined or under a cork. some times I used dead (depending on how cold it is) Cats will hit anything dead or alive stuck on the bottom...
As for the water its brackish, both fresh and salt. If you are cruising, I wouldn't pass up trolling a lipped top water plug.

Do the catfish bite alot during the day also? or just at night.. i know i read somewhere they were knocturnal... ill even take some catfish... anything that will jump on my hook ;D thanks for all the info.. Im gonna try and get a topwater plug from walmart.. maybe resembling like a mullet or somethning.. i know they have mirro mullet lures.. maybe ill try something like that.. and when u said brakish.. i was thinkin "dirty" because thats how the wateralways looks lol should have just googled it since i wasnt sure but yea.. ill be trolling for sure so hopefully that will work.. Now that i know theres all kinds of fish in there.. im gonna just try a bunch of different baits and methods. see what works.. Is there any places locally that sell live shrimp besides gandy bait and tackle? maybe even close to lowry park area? thanks again for all the help
