Ok... Time for some advice... Some of you may have read my posts lately.. I recently got a 10 foot aluminum jon boat... nice condition.. looks almost brand new... Fits 2 people (me and my GF usually go out) We usually bring 2 poles, a tackles box, bag, and maybe a cooler... and 2 paddles just in case of course wHAT KIND OF MOTOR WOULD YOU GUYS GET TO POWER IT? Im lookin for a main power source.. Not a huge motor of course.. but enough to do the job of gettin me from one place to another.. and not at a snails pace, you know?? Would a 3/4 hp little gas powered motor be better?? or should i stick with my thoughts of a maybe 40/50 thrust trolling motor??? this is my first time owning a boat so i figure i might as well ask you guys opinions... Thanks in advance...

Buzz, with the size of your boat or lack of, I would stick to the trolling motor. You likely won't be doing any deep water fishing and if you have a gas powered motor you won't be able to take it into the backwater where motors are not allowed. That's where you have the advantage over a larger boat. A 40/50 lb thrust motor with a good deep cycle battery will push that 10 footer along at a good pace. With a trolling motor you also have the option of raising it vertically in shallow water, another big advantage. Just my 0.2 cents. For lights, you can buy clamp on bow and stern lights that run on "D" cells. Easy to take off, clean and store when not in use. Don't forget your PFD's a throw cushion (with boat numbers on it), whistle and air horn. A small anchor is a good idea too.

thanks for the input! yea i got a whistle and all that.. Im gettin a small collapsable anchor too.. bout 5-10 pound... I have a Minn Kota Endura 30 motor and a 75 amp deep cycle marine battery already... I think i need to get a better chatger tho cuz when i took the boat out yesterday.. (i thought the battery was fully charged) and we ended up out for about a hour before all the battery power was gone.. guess it didnt charge right (charger im usin isnt for big 12volt batteries... So i was thinkin today i might return the battery (get a better one) and then maybe upgrade the motor... but then i came across a few good deals on little gas powered ones so it got me to thinkin... so i figured id ask people i know with fishing knowledge so all input is appreciated.... ive been itching to get out on the water and slay some fish... Just havent been too lucky lately.. if its not one thing, its another...

If it were me, I would put a 4 to 6 hp gas on the back, and mount the trolling motor on the front.

depends on how far you're going to fish from the launch area. I frequently fish out of 14' canoe flatback with a 2hp and a trolling motor. I would recommend both...it takes forever to get to my fishing holes with the trolling motor. Upon getting close to the fishing area, i shut of the gas and switch to the trolling to find fish. With a 10ft jon boat, i think a 4hp should work. Just my 2 cents Just make sure that you have the boat registered with the appropriate info on the side of the boat. Many years back, friend and I were fishing on a inflatable boat with a trolling motor...got a ticket from FWC since it was powered by a motor. They also check for the whistle, throw, life vest, etc...just in case you haven't got it yet.

trolling all the way. No maintenance and last a long time.
As for Anchor.... I got one of the mushroom anchors. More then enough the hold the boat ( unless you anchor up under the Skyway. lol
