NEED SOME HELP-BASIC KNOWLEDGE 4 U, Me not so much

Ok some of these questions may seem stupid...

my fishing knowledge is limited.. Im just now getting into it...

Ok so my question is this... Well i have a few...

What is a DOA deadly combo?? Is that just one of the fake DOA shrimp u get at the store???
(OK SO I TOOK THE TIME TO GOOGLE WHAT A DOA DEADLY COMBO IS.. I GET THAT PART NOW! LOL )

Secondly... popping cocks? What are they and how do they differ from regular bobbers?? are they basically for makin ur bait move every once and a while?

Lets say i throw out a shrimp (live) under a bobber.. keeping it a few feet under the bobber.. is that a good technique? how does doing that relate to, if any, to popping corks?

My main reason for asking is i just got a trolling motor for my john boat and i wanna hit alot of the areas that actually hold fish...

and i want to catch them of course! lol...

whats the best way to go about it?

Just get bait (shrimp, pinfish? DOA fake stuff? anything else?)

and while im trolling in my boat...

should i just cast out with or without a bobber? or the popping cork thing?

should i just wait (like let the bait hit the bottom and wait for a strike? or move the bait at all?

I guess im just lookin for some tips/techniques that u guys do when u go out...

this is my first time fishin on my own little boat and i wanna be successful....

if i was by weedon island for example.. trolling around the marsh areas... would i use a weight? bobber? what type of set up???

hopefully all my rambling still got the point across...

Any help woud REALLY be appreciated.....

EDIT: after doing some googling.. i knda have an idea.. any help is still appreciated... atleast on what u guys do wen u go out. What u use, set up, etc..

poping corks are mostly used with plastic baits as when you pop them they will make a sound under the water , the trick is though is to pop it and wait a min and pop it again , most common mistake is people keep poping it as if the were retivieing a bass lure .

if useing the live shrimp under a poping cork , still same retrie as with the plastic shrimp !!

make sure you have it registered due to the fact that you are now motorized and need it have numbers on the side of the boat

its best when fishing from a slow boat to have one on bottom and one on top . i e , slip sinker , swivel , 2 foot of leader and atleast a 2/0 hook for bottom , for top some type of cork with about 1/2 slip sinker ( or poping cork ) swivel 2 foot of leader and 2/0 hook for top ....

you can use both while trolling in the area , normally you will find reds , snook, trout, and a few other fish doing so .

leave the bottom alone and play with the poping cork

when your trolling you want to get the bait to come up just off the bottom so that its not snaging the bottom , you will have to adjust the weight till you find a spot that you like .

we used to push a 12 vhull down to the creek and put it in all the time , but we used these lights and a spot light , and the fwc never bothered us , unless we were in side the base . push it down there get the boat off and lock the trailer to the guard rail lol. but i would aslo find ya another batt for you motor for that just in case moments .

you should definitely probe different areas of the water column because you never really know where the fish will decide to be. i dont get to fish off of boats often but when im at the skyway i generally have something soaking on the bottom and something else either on a cork or freelined in the upper half of the water column

using a shrimp in 1-3' . i would go with a float like the one in the pic. but in kile 4' and deaper, iwould hook the shrimp threw the last section of the tail and just cast out and let him swim around, just keep an eye on your line. or a piece of cutbait and splitshot casted close to the mangroves has worked for me lately

im gonna do both... Im actually planning on using it for my main source of power for my little boat...

Yesterday went down the hillsborough river again.. Basically just trolled around and site casted hopin to catch a few bass or something.... and nothin.. no luck at all there lately...

Actually been thinkin of changin my mind...

WOULD A 3HP OR SO GAS MOTOR BE A BETTER CHOICE?

I just need enough power to get me around (not at a snails pace)

so that i can troll, ride around, whatever.

Im still looking around for a Motor and even a bigger boat if i can find one reasonably priced...
