I never fish out there. Ive seen a few people bring up a catfish or a small shark here and there when Im out catching bait. Heard of the occasional snook and red and Ive seen a snook out there, but doesnt seem worth my time. Unless you wanna bar b que out there and set you lines out in the water
Great place for sheepshead bait.

Jab,
I head out there a few times a month on my lunch break.
I have brought home some Trout, flounder and sheepshead. As well as the occasional Mackeral.
When fishing at lunch been mostly artificials lures.
!/8 to 1/4 jig head with a grub tail. All the colors works. Skip it along the bottom for the flounder and trout.
DOA deadly combo with a popping cork works for the trout.
Near the big bridge I use a gotcha plug and Doc goofy jig for Macks and the rare Pomp.
All along the rocks you will find crabs and oysters. Works great for the sheepshead.
BTW i never fish the south side. only the north side. I do not know why but i just do.
Off of Tampa road just east of racetrack road there is a park there. Alot of fiddler crabs there. Catch a few and head to the county park. fish the little pier . In the winter time catch one of those winter low tides. Head out about 90 minutes before the low tide and wade the channel working your way to the Bay. You will find reds, trout and snook in the deep holes. But be careful. You do not want to get caught on a small island as the tide rises. Canoe or yak would be great. ( even have a Yak launch there.

I've been stuck out there (Upper Tampa Bay Park) when the tide came in! I still have the scars on my legs to prove it! Had to hug to magroves so tight that I cut my legs. Eventually had to climb up in the trees themselves. Two boats came by to see if I was OK and I told them how I got stranded and they just left me there!!!!! I had a backpack of gear, a bait bucket and a rod with me and eventually I decided to just try and swim back. The gear wieghed me down so much (This was over my head deep by the way) that I had to hop to move (go underwater them jump to breathe... repeat). I had just moved to FL and that was a TERRIBLE experiance. I underestimated tides and it almost cost me big time. I still love to wade fish but I am much more careful now.
That being said, I have caught a lot of fish there, you have to escape the crowds as well, lots of yakkers.
As far as CCC, I fished there a lot in the past. Caught lots of catfish and stingrays. Fun to catch but I not the quality that I was looking for. It is however, a great place to drink and fish. Tailgaters paradise.
