Hi all. Haven't been on in a while, thought I'd stop by and say howdy. Nice reports coming in I see... WTG to all! Just checked the Top Secret Grouper Barometer (Scooter), and all indications are the Gag Bite is coming on strong. Scoots been gettin his 2 most every trip out, and I noticed on another thread Capt. Jack had a pretty good day one day last week to. Here's to a great fall season, and thick white filets for everyone in the upcoming weeks. Checking my log, October started out with a bang last year, with several Large Kings landed from the 5th. thru on in to November. Still remains to be seen what these water Temps are gonna do, what with the lack of Tropical weather so far this Summer. As has been posted several times before 78 degrees seems to be the magic number, but several other factors can, and will apply. As with any Saltwater Gamefish, the Kings can get pretty hard to predict, with the wind, Tide, Moon Phase, Tides, Cold Fronts, Etc. factored in, as witnessed this past Spring. The Fronts reall raked havoc on the Kings, and as far as I know very few were landed at the Piers. Let's all hope and pray we all make up for lost time this upcoming fall season. Personally, my best King last year came on an evening incoming trickle tide, on a day the Egmont Buoy was reading 82 degrees surface temp. Need them big Threadies to pack back up so we can get this party started. It's been a long hot Summer, and I don't know about Y'all, but I got a need for speed. Speeding Kings, and Screamin Drags! Can't wait! See Y'all on the Pier! J

Hey Jay,
Good to here from you again. Yup, the spring run for kings blew big time, only landed 1. If it is anything like last fall, need a few storms to rough up the water a little bit. Was out Sunday for the out going, and every bait out got slammed. No keepers but, several good rock ups. Personally, I,m waiting for the Boneheads in the "Alley". Heard reports that they are showing up in the outer bay. Water needs to drop a few for them to show up at the piers.
See ya out there.

I caught a 20" gag yesterday and had 4 even bigger break offs, going tomorrow afternoon after switching my 40lb mono to some 65lb braid.

i havent been to the piers in about a month but im gonna start going back next week so i hope your log is right.
jmfishin i keep a log also, pretty basic but it kinda helps me learn the habits of some species and also how unpredictable other species can be. i put in mine the date, where i was, time, moon phase, general weather conditions, temp, tide, the setup and bait i was using and what i caught.
