Hey guys,
Hope all is well in the albacore alley. How has everyone been? Last trip out was 9/4 and we got skunked, the fiance did pretty good on the pins and i caught a grunt or two, nothing worth keeping. The bait was non-existant, and the new cast net that i bought was manufactured with a twisted brail line. UGH!!!
Anyways, me and the old man, ventured out on the 6th (couldnt go a labor day weekend being skunked), skipped the skyway, stayed closer to home, and had a field day on the trout, even had some macks in the upper bay region, with pretty decent size.
Went the following weekend, to get some mullet (nothing...gonna wait for the run to start (probably just getting fired up in my area).
Got tired of watching fish all over Weedon Island just out of casting range. So...I compromised...
I had been doing some Yak research, and low and behold, I came across a Heritage Marquesa 14' on craigslist, all rigged and outfitted for fishing. (Still waiting on the maiden voyage...hoping that will be this sunday).
Ill post some pics when i get her in the water, now im hoping to get back into Red Country.
I was thinking about putting in a little closer to home at Cypress point (right off I-275), but i got some news from the old man that a local guide lost part of his hand to a bullshark while he was in the process of releasing a tarpon. (Rumor has it, hes lost two fingers and was bitten up to his elbow). Hope he makes a quick recovery. Apparently, this time of year, the bull sharks move in (must be a breeding or nursery area, cuz the Marine Patrol say they're in there pretty thick).
So with that said, I've got Weedon Island on my mind, but can any of you Yak fishers, or small water fishers give me any pointers about some potential spots for a first venture in the new Kayak?
I'm experiened in paddling, but ive never fished from one.
thanks,
BMA
