Only people falling for that now days are greedy or have forgotten the golden rule "If it's too good to be true it probably is"
I had dealing whit a scammer last year over the sale of an old Hammond Organ, wanted $500 for it but the duid wanted to send me $1500 to cover shipping and my trouble for having to send the ballance to his shipper via western union. When the check arrived it was from the city of Shreveport, LA, ironicly I have kin that work for the city up there. So it was game on, I replied that I had cashed the check and Mailed the difference to his shipper. The duid went nuts telling me I need'd to stop the mail and do western union. Told him there was no way to stop it using USPS and he freeked threatining to turn me into the FBI on instruction from his lawyer. Imagine that, a scammer reporting me to the FBI, LOL I kept baiting him with many Emails, all forwered to the FBI field office in J-ville. Last letter I sent him I told him all the Emails had been sent to the FBI and I never heard from him again.
Theres a website called scambusters.com that give specefic instructions on how to play these asshats. And like telemarketers the worst thing you can do to them is waste their time.

I listed an ATV on craigslist for a friend a year or so ago and got the same kind of scam attempt. They sent a check for $1000 more than we wanted to the vehicle, and they wanted us to send the difference back to them...the check was of course bogus. I called some office that had to do with fraud (maybe the Federal BI, dont remember), they said it was a popular scam, etc...never heard anything else after that.
