Went to SSP today after encouraging thread yesterday about catching mackerel. Very little going on, with only a couple of fishermen (stopped to talk with several mackerel fishermen) catching a Spanish mackerel or two. Me, I caught only one juvenile kingfish soon after arriving around2:30 PM. The rest of the day was without any action. I even tried the NSP but it was pretty much the same, excep Inoeatfish caught one and maybe another couple earlier. Went back to SSP around 7 PM. I was fishing about 2/3 toward the end of the SSP with little or no luck. An Asian guy showed up next to me and showed me up by catching 2 macks soon after arriving around 7 PM, and another about half an hour ago (freelining live bait or chunks or small live scaled sardines out into the outgoing current). I switched to do similar. Got two hits, one cut off. Abouit 8 PM I got discouraged. I went to the E. side where i had been catching bait, and decided it was too late and should go home. Drove away, got to the end of the pier, stopped to get a beer our of the back of my truck. I was shocked to see that my brand new Shimano/St.Croix outfit (used two times) had been left on the W. side. Drove back, but takes 15 min or so, and by that time the Asian guy who was fishing next to me and driving a newer silver Toyota coupe had left. IS THERE ANY CHANCE THAT THERE IS SOMEONE EXCEPTIONALLY HONEST WHO FOUND MY NEW OUTFIT? I can only hope!

Yeah, I can tell you that I feel iike a dumb ass... A $250 dumb ass...fished with the best outfit I have ever bought two times. Did not even catch a single keeper with it. No excuse, but I was so upset by not catching anything that I was driving away in disgust...like a dumb ass.

I see my username in this post. Not sure if I read it wrong but I haven’t been fishing in 1 months. I drive a white old Toyota pickup truck. Sorry to hear you lost your gear. I’ve been lurking here and there, but not posting since I’m not actively fishing at all.

Sorry for the mistake, Inoeat. I stopped at the wide trash spot that you said was where you often fish. There was a small asian guy fishing with a sinker, long leader, spoon rig, and he caught one mackerel just as I got there. I eventually walked up to him, and I asked if he was the Ino guy from the forum, because he looked like he knew what he was doing. He said yes. However, his english language skill was not very good, so he may have misunderstood me. I later again talked to him and told him that the crabing and shrimping would be good in a few more days when the strong outgoing tide occurred after dark. I mentioned his posting pictures of all the crabs and shrmp he caught, and he nodded and smiled. I guess he was not you. He was driving (or at least arrived in) a newer black or dark blue pickup truck that was parked i the trash dumpster wide spot. He had four rods upright, one in each corner, in the truck bed. The truck had a big white sign on the side that said something about pressure washing service. Again, sorry for the mix-up.

Not a problem. But definitely not me. Here is a pic of me charter fishing for the first time today. And here are the catches $2k later for 4 people.

I've drove off and left behind an expensive rig after wade fishing the grass flats north of the Skyway pier, actually came back all the way from Tampa and the rig was gone. Also lost a just bought polarized Bolle sunglasses after one use, placed them on my car roof to change shirts after wade fishing and forgot about them, never saw them again either. Surprising given my OCD to double and triple check every freaking thing I do, sucks but does not make you a dumb ass, we all slip up now and then.

If it makes you feel any better, I had a fishing buddy a few years ago named "Will Smith" (like the actor but white) who left behind a $480 rod and reel. When we got to his house, we noticed it missing and 45 minutes later it was missing from the spot he left it at the pier.
