Went out to the Rod and Reel pier yesterday from 10-6. Kept over 20 Spanish between me and my girlfriend. Largest was a 24” absolute stud. Caught several in the 16”-22” range. All on gotcha plugs, or spoons and crappie jugs under a popping cork.
With the clean water out there it’s easy to avoid the red tide since clean water was flowing in most of the day thanks to the tide.

Calculator I looked at the webcam for the rod and reel pier and it looks like there’s no railings.

I’d like to give it a try but it’s a long drive from where I live (valrico). I went to the SSP this morn. Nothing doing

I’d like to give it a try but it’s a long drive from where I live (valrico). I went to the SSP this morn. Nothing doing There was action all day at the rod and reel pier. I plan on going Monday or Tuesday, to try to get another limit of a good size Mackerel. And apparently the bite is actually getting even better as the week goes on down there. That is what some of the regulars have told me. Also apparently I outfished them from using some of the techniques I picked up at the skyway. Worth the drive, and you are correct, no railing except on the walkway up to the end of the pier

I live close to all of these piers on AMI. In my opinion it is not worth the travel if it requires longer than 30min. Unless you CANNOT escape the redtide where you currently fish. Their is nothing special about these piers besides this time of year they will hold massive female breeder snook. The Spanish are simply following the bait and clean water and any structure or pier will have bait. They could be gone tomorrow and very easily probably will be. The only thing I would target on the rod n reel pier and town pier is Mungo snook. Anything else right now is just being at the right place at the right time like those spanny macks
My buddy caught a cobia today fishing for snook.
