Took my boys to Disney and plan to do some fishing and roamed upon this site. We did a guided trip at lake toho that was a bad experience (not fishing or catching issue, more ethical business operating). Any tips of fishing the skyway pier would be great, just trying to get them some action for a partial day. Thanks for any advice

So it really depends on what you guys plan to catch. If the kids are young, nothing will beat a #16 sabiki rig to catch not only small fish but also bait that may be out there. A small hook (3/0 or smaller) on a 30 lb test leader and a swivel, with a 1-2 ounce weight will catch anything from snapper, pin fish, grunts etc.
If they are older, they can try to catch some mackerel on a metal spoon or gotcha lures.
Bait can be shrimp, squid, cut pin fish. Just be mindful of the rock piles around the piers. You can see one of the pinned post about them. But they are great to fish around.
The closer you are to the base of the pier, the more likely you can catch trout, snook or any other shallow water fish. Anything else you’d like to know?
And when are you planning to go out?

well we went on friday when the wind was howling, after a visit to bucket bait shop the worker advised that the skyway pier would be unfishable in the wind. so we bridge hopped and eventually ended up at the fort de soto gulf pier. kids had a blast catching bait on sabiki rigs, pinfish, greenbacks. they also experienced a crafty dolphin stealing bait off their hooks and a school or 4-6ft tarpon crashing bait right next to the pier.

Good to see that you guys had a good time. I know that one fishing with young kids it’s always important to make sure they have fun and have a memorable experience.
