I’m going to be hitting the northside pier tomorrow morning. I’m gonna get there around four or five in the morning and I’ll post updates throughout the day as I catch. Or if I catch LOL. I’m gonna be going primarily for mackerel and king fish.

Good luck tomorrow...I think choice of NSP is better than SSP. That’s what I’ve been hearing. I’ve been getting kings on the line every single trip but my lack of experience bringing them in on appear as cost me at least two. So hopefully this trip I’ll be able to bag if you can do a victory dance at the end of the day!

Got there at around 5 am.
Lots of small greenbacks right after you pay to get on. Caught 3 sand trout and 2 small gags off live greenies and hooked a few small tarpon, (I have no idea how to properly hook on a tarpon cause of their hard mouth so the kept jumping and throwing hook). Also caught a big lady fish. Moved to the end of the pier and set up 2 trolley rigs, which caught nothing all day. After around 8am, mackerel were getting caught in everything from shrimp and cut threadfin. Around the same time, large amount of threadfin and large greenies swarmed and boiled for most of the day. Managed to catch some 2 more grouper on cut threadfin under the pier, and the guy next to me hooked a huge tarpon that pulled under the pier. Managed to get a kingfish too! Except the guy who came to “help me land it”, refuse to let me drop the gaff I had and instead tried to lift it by the line and pulled the hook on the railing. Spent the rest of the day pissed with only one small mackerel in the cooler, and sore from fighting and losing the king. Left at 6pm
Good day tho, wind picked up in the evening. Outgoing tide from morning till 10am ish, then outgoing again at around 4pm.

You sure put in a long day from 5am to 6pm. Too bad that guy "helped" you with the Kingfish. Hope your next trip is better! Won't be reporting for awhile...will be up north for a spell.

Tho I’m mad I lost the king, I’m not mad that he genuinely tried to help. And enjoy your trip up north! I’ll keep the fish unhappy at the end of my line for you 🤞

Calculator do you have a size estimate on the king that you lost?

Not sure, but he came up halfway up my thigh at least. (5’8” small man here)
But it was the only one I saw all day. I may try both NSP and SSP this coming Tuesday. This was the first time I didn’t see any skying up.
