Looks like a lot like a vermilion snapper (beeliner) to me. Not a beeliner/vermilion snapper 100%. As for what it is.. could be a hybird or could be something else.

Looks like its just a yellowtail. The body doesn't look all that different from a yellowtail. Red eyes & 'red' body color morphology are fairly common variations in all fish. Only way to know for sure is a DNA test which would probably be easy to get done by fwc and they would probably like to know. Fin, scale, meat & otolith (ear stone) samples would be what they would want.

That's how FWC tell the different between a lane and a mutton.

Could just be a mutation in a yellowtail snapper.

So I had to do some research on this, but yesterday I caught what I believe to be a Yellowtail / Red Snapper Hybrid on Hubbards 10 hour. No one on the boat could identify it. Red eye, mostly red with a Red snapper Profile, with streaks of yellow, yellow fins and a yellow tail, shaped like the tail of a yellow tail. Measured 15 inches. I found a article from Hubbards years ago, saying it was a hybrid. The two pics look the same to me, you be the judge!?! Nice fish. Surprised nobody on the boat could identify it. It definitely has markings of a yellowtail vs a vermillon (Beeliner). Whatever it was I am sure was delicious.
