Has anyone had any luck with these elusive fish at the skyway? I've seen them before, but they usually don't stick around for long. I've never caught one before so I'm hoping I can try to target them on my next trip to the bridge.

Unicorn fish at the Skyway Pier anymore. although curious theyre not to fond of people. Or being chased and assailed by airborne objects being thrown at them. Always lead a swimming Cobia and never cast directly at them or its game over. best plan is to have a bare hook pitch rod and a good supply af large lively Pinfish or Whitebait ready if you see one in the course of regular fishing. They also love Pass Crabs and select Shrimp freelined. Artificial eels, or brightly colored jigs if theyre agressive. If you see a very large one drifting along with one or more following, kind of swimming circles on the top forget it. Theyre spawning/courting and could care less about eating. Best spot, or should I say where the most have actually been caught is end of North Pier. But I wouldnt hold my breath. good luck.

well so much for the end of the pier lol this Cobia was posted on Facebook just now. Bait of choice was a footlong Ladyfish on a ballon 125 yards out from the aproach to the Pier so there ya go Aaron. 🤗 (away from the Googan circus taking place on the Piers right now)

Have seen more on the beach passes than the pier. But a live bait is going to be your best option. Then probably a hot colored jig. If you throw a jig, don't stop it...no bait dies when a fish turns on it...keep it moving.

Used to catch them off the Ft. desoto pier now and then. Weird that I've never seen one at the skyway.

Few and far between. I have seen them (and caught 1) very early in the am towards the front of the S pier. I got mine on a 6" lipped minnow bait. I was there another time and saw a school of like 6-7, the biggest being the biggest fish I have ever seen, over 5' long and I guarantee over 50 lbs. It haunts me to this day. Beautiful fish.

I have seen several Cobia in the last few years caught at the Little Bridge just before the SS Pier. Fish down on the Seawall for them. Stay away from the Pompano Anglers & You will catch Cobia. Early Mornings are the Best with an Incoming Tide.
