I don’t normally target sharks, but when nothing else is biting..... I was in my Kayak over by Gandy Beach. Never in my life have I seen so many sharks. Mostly blacktips, they were swimming right up to my kayak! I stopped counting when I caught 15, probably caught 25. No exaggeration! Mostly small 2-3 feet although I had two larger ones snap me of. Was just freelining shrimp on 20 lb test on one pole, and freelining cut pinfish on 40 lb test on the other pole. No leader, got snapped off plenty, pretty much only caught the ones I lip hooked. Also got 2 bonnets, one was very large pushing 4 feet. I thought he was a Hammerhead until I got a good look at him. Also lost 2 spinners when they jumped, I never can land those damn things! Other than all the sharks there wasn’t much around. Plenty of jacks, and I did get a short sheep and two trout one of which was a gator pushing 25-26 inches. But, I still went home empty handed..... which is why I don’t kayak the flats much anymore. Thought about keeping a couple blacktips, I’ve kept them before, but didn’t feel like putting in the work to prepare them right. All in all, really fun morning with lots of drag ripping action. Might do it again tomorrow and might just go wade the surf for pomps, haven’t decided yet.

Depending on where you are coming from Tatum's bait and Tackle is a good place for live shrimp and frozen bait. They are on US 19 (34th St) at about 26th Ave S. If you are coming over from Hillsborough County or other Counties crossing either the Courtney Campbell,Howard Franklin or Gandy bridges get onto US 19 South. Tatum's will be on the right hand side.
Gator Jim's is also a good place to get bait and they have a really big tackle and rod selection.
