Here's an idea. How about we all clean up where we fish so that the next guy has a clean spot. As a matter of fact while waiting for the tide to change, expand your cleaning area, just a bit. Who knows what goodies you could be going home with. That's what I'm going to do. Who's with me? There are several of Us on here that already expands cleaning up Our Designated Fishing Area. We don't like stepping on other peoples crap just in case we hook into a Fish that likes to travel up & down the Pier. King Mackerel, Sharks, Bonito & Gag Grouper are a few examples. It is basically the Weekend people that are Trashing the Piers. Most of Us here on Proboards try to Avoid Fishing on the Piers on Weekends since many of Us are Retired People and Fish during the Weekdays. We just have to All work Together to get pass this current situation.

I lean toward there needing to be an FWC presence on the piers. Otherwise people will just do as they please. When I was younger here in Polk County, we had various swimming holes at local lakes. Every one got closer down for the same reason. People just trash wherever they go. There is usually a presence of FWC on the Piers daily. Their Job is to Inspect what We are catching, releasing & taking home. The FWC cannot make everyone clean up the Pier unless they see a person doing it. The FWC should not have to Babysit Us all to keep the Piers clean. That is Everyone that Fishes job.

Went out on SSP today and was surprised. It was no more dirty than normal as I expected it to be a lot worse. Even tho I did pick up a bucket of garbage between the two garbage cans on the end of the pier. As far as the bathrooms were concerned, I have used bathrooms in bars that were a lot worse

Hope you caught something. Give a report on the fishing too. But shouldn't this be embarrassing and unacceptable, especially for a state park that's supposed to be family friendly and a representation for visitors: ...It was no more dirty than normal...Even tho I did pick up a bucket of garbage between the two garbage cans on the end of the pier. The US is a wealthy society. Not in the sense of having money, per say, but poverty here is not like it is 3rd world countries. As a child my family participated in humanitarian efforts in Africa. My dad used a specific way to get us to understand poverty. As an adult I think it was wise and accurate.
He said: Consider a persons access to ice cream. In the US everyone has access to ice cream, the poor may not have the means to afford it, but the odds are almost every American has had it at least once. In the more impoverished cities around the world, they know it exists but never had it and may never have a chance to. In the most impoverished areas of the world, they don’t even know it exists. They don’t even know things can be chilled or refrigerated.
If you study past fallen empires, Like: the Saxon, Roman, Greek, Egyptian, etc. you can see evidence that they were wealthy societies just like ours. And in each of those there becomes a part of society that forgets what it’s like to rely on one’s self and protect everything they own because they may need it for survival. The needy are provided for to some degree and those people don’t respect or cherish their possessions. Because they didn’t work to get it and can find a way to get it replaced by others. You also get those in the upper classes that lose respect for their possessions because they can replaces them at will. This is where wealthy societies collapse. It falls from both sides and when the two sides meet, nothing has value and no one cares.
I have experienced people from all races, religions and social status that lose respect for everything including themselves. These are the people that destroy everything that’s good and ruin things for everyone.
