Don't know, I rarely look at the water as I'm usually flat on my back from sucking Coronas....I'll take a dozen large please

A dozen crabs or dozen Coronas?
I'm originally from the Northeast and would catch blue crabs with a chicken leg quarter and landing net. The FL trap requirements seemed too crazy to follow.

I've seen people with long handled nets dipping them from the bridge before, don't remember what the tide phase was,I'm sure there's some videos out there.

We used wings back when there was access to prime areas....biggest blue crab I've ever seen I caught on HIWAY 60 in a dredged canal that went up toward the airport and emptied into the bay....missed him twice but got his big butt on the 3rd attempt...he was so old all the blue had turned brown and he had huge barnacles on his back......he was delicious

I use to use chicken backs that we could get at the supermarket for like 39 cents a package. At the time I lived in VA Beach, and most inlets would yield dinner fairly quickly.

In Jersey my dad and I did well using cut bunker in a box trap. Been wanting to try crabbing down here as well with cut bait. I saw a couple people at ballast point once using chicken for crabs but they only got spadefish in their traps. I was fishing with shrimp and caught more crabs.

Are those “pass crabs” people are netting on the top of the water at night actually blue crabs or something else? I like to eat blue crab, if I accidentally catch one while fishing I usually bring him home and boil him up!

Back in my renegade days we would raid a couple traps, bring a dozen back to shore, build up a small fire out of dead mangrove branches and throw them on live.......nothing better

High full moon outgoing tide at night there will be people elbow to elbow with 30' nets dipping blue crabs and BIG shrimp off the North pier this time of year. Did it for a number of years. Now I'm to old and it's to much like work.............lol

If anybody is interested, I have a dip net specifically made for crabbing off the Skyway I'm selling for $45. The cushioned handle part is a little worn, however still absolutely effective regardless. You'll likely get your money's worth in crabs & then somenwithin three trips, maybe less, especially if you go within the next 3-4 months when it's primetime. I'm relocating soon & will no longer have any use for it. PM me for details if you're interested & I'll send photos, details, etc.
