From what hear from my buddies who live up north, they only eat the small Blues and mostly C&R the ones over about 4 pounds, they get stronger and stronger tasting as they get bigger. For some reason, we usually only see smaller bluefish in the Gulf, not sure why???

"Cocktail" blues as we call them up north. I was out fishing Plum Gut off the north fork of Long Island NY last Wednesday and my buddy and I pulled up 19 blues along with 26 stripers and a surprise 28", 10.2 lbs doormat of a fluke (summer flounder) that was incredibly tasty!
Not a huge fan of the blues. They're ok. I find that they're better in stews/chowders vs grilled/fried/broiled.

I kept a large lizardfish to try once along with other fish in the cooler. When went to clean them, the lizard fish had degraded to a slimy mess. Tossed it. Will only use them for cut bait.

Don't forget Ladyfish! Actually very good in fishcakes. You'll notice the Asians on the piers keep them. A few years back I asked a lady who was cleaning them if they were good to eat. She gave me instructions on how to clean and the recipe. DELICIOUS!

I looked up some youtube videos of a guy cleaning ladyfish with a spoon and making cakes out of them. Next time I catch some I'm going to give it a try. Of course I found this info after throwing back four or five I caught on nsp awhile back.

There's a reason everything eats them 😁.
