Hey all, old fart here, trying to get back into fishing and the skyway was always one of my favorites. We used to go out there back when you had to pick your way through the rocks to get to the bridge. Slept out there many a weekend too! Now that I'm older I do like parking next to my spot. Now I just need to find the fish again!

Hello to the group. My name is John. I have fished on a lot of NC piers. Do I need a classic fishing cart on the Skyway.....or do you just pull up and park? Thanks

Hey everyone! I live just minutes from the pier and I’m always looking for some buddies to fish with. Recently been on a king mackerel obsession. If someone wants to hit me up and try to catch some,(since I have yet to do it from a pier) I’d be happy to meet y’all out there

So your new to fishing the Skyway Piers. Welcome Aboard. While there are many ways to catch fish, over the years many tips and techniques have been posted here in this section of the forum. Its not that members do not like to help, its just that chances are your question has been already asked and no one likes to keep answering the same questions over and over again. So first read through all the Stickies and then you can be more specific on your questions if you have them.

Hello fellow fisher people its great to see so many nice comments and spot sharing on this forum!!! I've only been there a few time but love it,I make the drive from Miami and have never regretted it. Hope they never close it!!!!! Here in Miami we don't have bridges worth a darn for fishing they have either posted NO FISHING SIGNS OR DEMOED THEM. THIS PLACE IS GARBAGE AND YOULL WILL BE BETTER SERVED TO SPEND YOUR MONEY IN THE KEYS JUST KEEP GOING SOUTH. HOPE TO DRIVE UP SOON AND TEAR THEM LIPS,TAKE PICS AND REALEASE WHAT I CANT EAT ON SITE. TIGHT LINES AND SCRESMING DRAGS TO ALL.

Hello all, My name is Jim (Greenwing). The last time I fished the Skyway, you couldn't drive on it. I used to keep a Winn Dixie shopping cart in my garage so I could hump all my stuff to my fishing spots. Skyjay speaks of the Skyway Mile, heck I got that just getting to where I want to fish. If there are any Gator fans on the board, I was on the south pier cooking steaks when Danny Wuerffel hit Chris Doering on the last play for a TD to beat Kentucky, I think that was 1993. Right now I am currently semi retired running a small business. As I approach my latter years, I plan on selling my 21 bay boat, downsizing to a smaller more manageable rig and then hitting some stationary objects to try and catch King Mackerel. The south Skyway Pier is a favorite, the Flagler Pier is another, both are about a 3 hour drive from where I live. Growing up in Jacksonville, I used to wear out the old Jax Beach Pier back in the day, now I live on the west coast. I've had a Captains License since 2000 and I've probably fished 70-80 big money kingfish tournaments with some pretty good success. I've also fished the Bahamas out of Hope Town for the last 25 years for mahi, wahoo and tuna etc. There is something romantic about a kingfish caught off a stationary object or a small boat, and I've caught my fair share of them on both the east and the west coast. Maybe because it was an affordable "big game fish" that I could get after when I was growing up and was so broke that the bank wanted their calendar back. I've been lurking now for several years and finally decided to join the fray. Skyjay always talks about stepping out of the box and I have several ideas about king fishing that don't involve trolley rigs, live bait, fighting for a corner on the end of the pier etc, but dead bait and some specific lures and techniques. We'll see. Planning a scouting trip sometime soon just to get the feel of the pressure and re familiarize myself with the drive and area. Then will probably plan a trip to see what the fall season has to offer. I guess I should give my disclaimer, it's not my nature to offer up a resume and I definitely don't think I'm all that. But, I've got some serious experience and I'm at that stage in my career where I've been and done so I don't keep secrets anymore and want to pay it forward to anyone who wants to put a big fish across the gunnel or rail. Thanks for letting me join.

Hi All!
I have been to Skyway a few times but Id like to start going a bit more often. Does anyone know the distance between the pier to the water by chance? Thanks!

I am new here. Moved down from New Hampshire. First, thank you all for the information I have read so far. It has been a great help. I am retired and will be trying to fish at more “quiet” times. So I will post reports as much as possible when I do fish. The reports of others have given me great insight, so I will return the effort in kind. I hope it will be of some help to my fishing brothers and sisters!
