Well folks, it looks like you found yourselves a Captain with a love of seeing people catch fish and having a great time. Obviously you must realize that this man is not making a bunch of money, given the price of fuel and his time. Count your blessings and take advantage of this one. I wouldn't mind joining in sometime. A lot of you guys I still haven't had the privilege of meeting up with and bending a pole with an telling some lies, I mean fishing stories. Good luck, Captain Bob sounds like one of the old school bunch, a rare breed now a days.

Hi fishermen. I am very sorry to say that due to a federal fisheries legal issue that I was not aware of, "Cajun" will not be doing any charter fishing trips in the gulf. I'll keep my opions of our goverment "by, for, and of the people" to myself. I'm really sorry that I can't offer a reasonably priced day of fishing to people who love to fish. Thanks for all the kind words, capt. bob

What!!! Wait a Min!!!!! Cajonbob are uay saying that now you have a bunch of fisherman just linning up to go fishing with you now you cant take them fishing.Ok i kinda figured you werent your normal charter boat cause you dident charge 1k for the trip but still cmon man. I havvent tasted saltwater on my fishing line for 4 years ( i bet yall can imagine the withdralls i am going through ) this is the first year in many that i was gonna have enough money to bring my family to the gulf but then gas prices shot up and i cancled the trip to dolphin island. Then the Cajun and his awsome priced fishing trip made figure mabey i can actually make it back to were i once roamed as a little boy ( the mangroves of pinellas county 30 yrs ago) well all that is again shot and i guess i have to take the kids ( once futher pier rats no stuck like me ) to the closest water park and act like i am having fun.

Bob can still take people out. Just say your recreational for the day. As long as everyone on board has their license you can be recreational. You do not need the captains 6 pack. Just follow your regular bag limits and the captain will still need the required safety items.
Basically you just found a new friend with a big boat. Just get a group of guys together and throw in some cash.

I'm really sorry that a I can't take regular folks out on the water and pay for the day. I know all the REAL charter boats are gonna skin you alive. I just wanted to make a living watching people catch fish. I'm 61, guess present times are based too much on economics. Again, I'm sorry I can't take you and your family fishing, Bob

Fester, and all concerned. Before we start pointing fingers at board members or the board its self, lets look back at the first post and where the information was discovered.
"Anybody else seen this on Craigs List? $280 a 10hr trip for up to 6 people, maybe more. We'll have to ask the Capt about that. Pretty stable looking boat @ 42ft."
Tommy found this on the "Craigs List" possibly one of the most visited sites on line now a days. Another avenue might be someone Captain Bob knows. This is real unfortunate as it would have been a great opportunity for many to enjoy a little time out away from shore.
This forum was created by our host to keep our group together and we are here cause we feel strong enough about the ties and bonds that we have made over time to help make this thing work. We are dedicated fishermen and women and enjoy the stories, photos and opportunities to pass on some of what we know to those who need a little direction. This is what we are, what we do, and what we will keep doing as long as the good lord will let us. IMHO

Hi folks. The problem is, someone saw my ad on Craigs List and rudely informed me that I don't have a federal reef fish permit and that he was going to talk to someone at the federal level about me, then he hung up. I did some research and discovered he was right. To charge a fee to fish for reef fish I have to have a federal charterboat permit. The feds no longer issue this license as there is a moratorium on new issues, so you have to buy it from a charterboat who wants to sell theirs. Going price is about $8,000! Those of you who are like myself (more pirate than pro-gov't) will scheme ways around this. The penalties are very severe and I am out of business. I am as disappointed as anyone. Thanks for the support and compliments. Bob

IMHO

Fester, I may have mis-interpreted your post, and if I offended you, it was far from my intention as that has never been my way. When you said the board could be the rat, or some one who could not make the trip, I guess you were being general as an example and I missed your point. I also would not have minded a trip out with you guys and perhaps there is a way, we will need to think on this one though and it will take some time as this unknown person is probably just some pissed off Charter Captain who thinks he's losing some business and be assured he will be watching. Again, sorry about the way it may have come across.

as long as your "recreational" you dont need a reef permit or a 6 pack. as long as everyone on board have licenses, your are just a group of buddies out fishing for the day.

Steelcity it may seem like your right but on the other hand Cajunbob definatly dosent want a fine either. If he got caught doing somthing illigal while fishing it would be allmost tha same as keeping undersize fish and we would all have a problem with that i believe. My hats off to Cajunbob for going by the laws and my hats off to him trying to supply affordable fishing to people. Mabey he will be able to find a way to do it again and feel like he might get caught doing something fineable.

isnt there a way to word things differently. like a non profit deal or.... ooh ooh ooh i got it. you post your ad like a personal ad. like umm... I am looking for fishing buddies to keep me company, i have a 42 ft boat and looking for some friends to share in the cost of fuel. so if you wanna help me with the fuel i will get the bait. on average it costs 280.00 to top off the fuel tank and we will go out for the day. then leave it with the default craigslist contact link i feel the mole is a competitor of capt bobs and none of us. it is a simple shame that people need to be so petty.

what about charitable causes. Are there different laws that apply?
right now, $280 split 6 ways is $47 bucks each, prob $55 - $60 after tip. for 10 - 12 hours of fishing with just 5 others, thats obviously a great deal. If the price was raised to $380, then a hundred dollars could go to charity. The price would still be just $64 each, $75 -$80 per ticket after tip.
just brainstorming here. Competitors and the government would have a hard time cracking down on someone trying to give a $100 bucks a day to say an organization providing counseling to returning war veterans, or better yet, a hundred bucks toward taking returning veterans out for a free day of charter fishing plus some fishing tackle to keep. hell, we could probably find a sponsor to provide the tackle.
we could show them some of the prime benefits of the freedom they help ensure. plus, there's no therapist like mother nature, some laughs, and some new friends who can relate...
id like to see someone try to throw a wrench in that idea.
