Got it this time. Thanks again. Yes sir, had the forum tagged in my favorites for some time. Sorry bout the first time post. I'll try to add more from here on out...honestly can't say I fish either pier but I can give ya a bait report on the SSP and don't mind sending some bait up to anyone needing some on the pier. My boat blends in with the rest except I'm one of the courteous fellas that stays clear of your fishing area. Catchemup!

Ok, a couple of things. First, my report from the 12 hour trip. Lot of red snappers caught on the boat, although I only had one keeper and my wife had 0. A few groupers kept on the boat. 3 kings. Several shark. So our take home was the 1 snapper. Thats not much of a catch for a 12 hour trip. BUT, I will say the crew was excellent and I believe Capt Chris did all he could, but he cant make them chew. I think if I do this trip again, I will have to bring my own gear. I see some advantages to that. As far as me contributing here to this forum, well, I will say I read it just about everyday. I just havent had things to contribute. My wife and I have been going to the skyway a few times each month for about the last 6 months now. And from reading this forum, I am finally learning how to fish the skyway. I remember I used to go there and never catch anything. Now, at least, I have done well with the mackerals and the snappers. So figure that. This forum has helped teach me how to land fish and now gave me the opportunity to take my wife out for her first trip on a boat. And even though we didnt take much home, we still enjoyed the trip very much, and I would certainly recommend others to do it. Sooooooo Thanks to everyone who has contributed and to those that will continue to contribute to my enjoying fishing more and more each and every time I get out.

Spearnreel you being on the courtous boaters around the skyway mabey you can sometimes be a voice for them when needed.
boanro thanks for the report i am quite dissapointed for you but when it comes to the 8 - 12 hour party boats in the tampa area i definatly recomennd 2 things to help you have greater success.
1. BRING LIVE BAIT !!!!!! so essential to having grouper success. They can be expensive but end the usually well worth it.
2. Bring at least a bait rod and several sabikis. I have found that catching live bait that the fish are actually eating at the time can make a difference.
Side note if you can find some live crabs to bring from fiddler crab size to small live blue crabs ( pass c rabs) They may allso help cause there are some fish on reef that prefer them.

Yeah, i will definitely try some different things. I did have 2 dozen live pins on this trip. Used only 6. Nothing wanted them. Same story for others near me as well. But your right, a sabiki may be the way to go next time.
