Well its 1221am.. im beat, but i figure ill give yall a taste of todays, offshore trip. It was me, my wife Allison, Tommy, Skyjay, Rich and his daughter Cody. As well as the captain and mate Jessy, and Skyler. well as yall know Tommy ,skyjay,Rich and Cody. Spent the night catchin some mighty fine bait.. lots of quality sized pinners. Well after we all met up at Mcd's we proceeded to the boat. Got loaded and went for more bait ,gas and ice. Took a bit to get threadies.. but we managed about 5 or 6 dozen.. off to get gas.. while waiting we see some nice Sheepshead.. were chewing the fat.. then get underway. out to about 30 miles to an A.J hole..100ft of water.. Cody begins to spank are asses. one bonehead after another. then she lands a nice Amberjack{ i think it was her} Im working the jacks up with a 4lb blue runner.. nothing wants a piece of.. Everyone bow's up but me here.. Cudas shreading the bonita boatside was a great site. So some of us start sending down Pinners to see who else is home... I think a couple Big Mangos get brought up.. Some throwback groups from gags, reds, carbo's and scamp.. After about an hour of this we decide to move , about 10 to 15 miles further out.. Halfway there we see a bait ball being thrashed.. slow down take a look its Boneheads.. so we proceed on Next stop.. its Ars and Mango city! Everyone gets bowed up.. lots of fish flying big hooks ups.. bigger breakoffs.. And Skyjay gets him a 23 inch gag! More mango and ARS and it slows after a few hours. So we make another move.. to 56 miles out.. Set hook and The ARS keep getting bigger as do the mangos.. Then Skyjay gets him a 24-25 inch Carbo!! Then me 21 3/4 darn it. Couple more Carbo's all throwbacks.. But fun.. We all are starting to feel the day wear on us its about 430 pm.. More ARS and a mango here and there. Finally we call it.. As everyone is cleaning up i leave a big pinner on the bottom.. Turn around then look at my rod its bowed up good! I know this is the one.. Fights like hell.. Get her up About a 4-5 ft Lemon shark..{NUTS} Then we take the rough 2 hrs ride home.. All wore out and licking our chops at what we just did.. I dont know the totals. But we had 12 ARS from 3 to 7 lbs. Probably 25 Mangos from 1 to 5 lbs.. 1 Almico jack, 1 Carbo, 3 Scamps, and 3 Gags.. 7, 1 gallon bags of fillets..Not to shabby for some rookies.. lol There is alot more im sure i left out. and the other guys will fill in . Now who wants to see some pics? I love pelicans

nice fish. we got it handed it to us today. left seminole ramp at 430 to head to the grounds. The wind forecast changed on us over night. Called for 10 out of the NW and when I got to the ramp I felt it. We got to 20 out and it started gettin sporty. It turned into solid 3-5's. We called it and went and hit some shallow spots up north quickly. No sense in killing ourselves. I'll get back there in a few. Did 2 shallow drops in 50-60. Shot some go's and smaller hogs (14" - 18") for my unexpected company thats showing up this week.

Tough azz boat.. but rough as hell. next trip im bringing a but pillow! Next trip I'm suppling the beanbags, they take all the rough seas out. The boat is rough as hell and thats partualy due to the fact that Capn Jessie don't run a pleasure boat, like his first ad I read stated "We haul ass to the fishing grounds and come back with sore arms and backs" I think all of us can tell ya that claim is as true as it gets. This ain't no party boat. Jessie is one of the most knowledgable Captins I've ever had the pleasure to fish with, you just don't hear/see a capn who wants to know if your getting a bite or if you catch a big one wants to know what you were using so he can get everyone on the fishing. If the bite slows he'll be the first to move where the fish are and might do some trolling along the way for those big ole tuna or dolphins or wahoo's or kings. The man loves to fish and to catch fish. I know for a fact he spends 6-7 days a week on the water, he dives over the wrecks to see the fish first hand. I won't be fishing with anyone else. Stephen, Allison, Skyjay it was great being on the water with all of you. Rich and Codi as allways you've made my life that much brighter, I, my friends, am the richest person on earth right now.

that man capt. jessie is "All that and a bag of Chips". When he says he hauls a$$ he hauls!!! Aside from reeling in reef donkey's and red grouper and other species; my first trip out was a memorable SPEEDY trip out to sea and a sore a$$/back from sitting up front. Me and Rich let the more seasoned anglers sit in the stern where it was "cheek" friendly.
James Gang that went out (tommy, jay, stephen, allison, codi, rich, capt. and 1st mate) i'm glad to hear you guys slayed em'. Lets let that big one get a little bigger and i'll show u how to dig-em' out next time. Tommy you truly are blessed! You have the riches of friends, family, and good fish!

Eddie! you gotta get in on the next one.. Hit up "Carbo-Nation" New spot full of Scamps and Carbos.. 3 near keepers And alot of bulldogs that busted 80-100 leaders!.. and some big getting bigger ARS.. Waiten on Tommy's next gig! Im on board! But bringing smaller tackle.. I was on overkill mode.. and got spanked with it.. Flouro in mind is over rated for big fish... How does 80 fluro pop on 20lbs of drag? Oh well im gonna get 100 leader.. screw fluro.. i had 60 and 80.. and fish didnt touch it.. while 30 whatever was getting smoked i used strictly fluro and they didnt want any part..

Just for the record... The Nickname For a True Black Grouper-"Carbo", short for "Carboritto" got it's place in West Coast Florida fishing History back in the day from the old Cuban Commercial Hook And Line Fishermen. Lovingly called so, in an effort to distinguish a true Black from a Gag, as all the locals have always called Gags, "Blacks". (I, and most of my friends still do to this day.) Much like a "Grunt", is called a "Grey Snapper" on PartyBoats, and local menus, these Nicknames sounded better to the Tourists, and they kind of stuck over the years. A Grey, Or Mangrove Snapper is a Mango, A grunt is a Grey Snapper, A Black is a Gag Grouper, and a Red is a Red Grouper. A Carboritto, is a true Black Grouper, and a Hog Snapper, really isn't a Snapper at all, but is actually a Wrasse. Pretty confusing for Newbies, these misnomers have been around forever, and hopefully will continue to be used for years to come. True Black Grouper are rare this far North, and are much more numerous in the Keys, and on the East coast. This rarity adds to the Mystique, of the "Carbo" legend. They easily grew to 100 plus pounds in the old day, and were/are prized for their flesh, as well as their fight. Easily distinguisable from a Gag, easily mistaken for a Large Scamp at times, their markings, and body stucture, are the clues to their actual Species. Tie a "Black" To a "Red", and the "Black will drag the "Red" around all day long. Out of the hundreds of "Blacks" I've caught in my life, only a handful were true "Carbos". If you ask me, they all eat the same. If you look at the Groupers in the Cooler picture above, the "Carbo", or Black Grouper is the fish on the left. The "Black", or Gag Grouper is the fish on the right. Notice the darker color, smaller spots/markings, and stouter body structure. The smaller Groupers, are Scamps. Finest eating in Mother Nature's Ocean. Hope whover got my Scamp in their bag of fish enjoyed him... LOL ;D

I use 80 on my 6/0 with either 80 fluoro or 100 mono leader with locked down drag when grouper fishing. It is crucial to get those first turns. 80 fluoro gets the job done, you just got to get those first turns. Loose drag = lost dinner.

i agree steel but if its to tight with ZERO give on the drag, 80lb will eventually pop! I even admit grouper diggin' off a boat is still hard after many attempts of burning and turning I still have trouble getting the big boys off the bottom at times. i'm really looking forward to my next offshore outing. i've even had 120# break off w/ a locked drag. onday i'll find a stupid grouper that digs up and not down.
