I'm not doing it, will be there Oct 1st to see what their plan is, will be there Oct 2nd as well. It's time to take a stand and stop acting like sheep controlled by someone else. There are other areas to fish and if enough people refuse the exam those piers will be ghost roads. Let's see how the baitshops and pier personnel re-act to that

That's 40 minutes of my life I'll never get back. 10 easy questions at the end, said I successfully completed the course but I haven't got any email that says I have done so. What a waste of time

And if 50 people don't have a certificate what happens? Will they be told they can't fish?

Don't forget your hoop net and your costa glasses, look good while netting that 15'' mackerel too.

I tried and could not even get logged in, I guess in 2023, if you don't know how to use a computer, you are no longer allowed to fish. I also logged in to where I buy my hunting and fishing license, and could not find the course. Called fwc in Tallahassee, they said to email my question to fwc, I don't even know how to do that.

I took the test and am wondering how tying down a fishing pole is going to help keep a pelican from getting entangled? Maybe if it's not casted out. All I need now is a printer so I can print out my completion paper when they email it too me.

Hard to navigate, search for the page for skyway pier education course, you may have to log in fresh, user name, password and start the course, 40 minutes of waisted time, when you finish all the sections you got to go all the way back to the beginning and look in the bottom left of the screen, click on course test or something worded like that,10 multiple choice questions that are worded to confuse you and someday you will get certificate in your email. some stupid garbage questions on this crap. Web site may be overloaded, Good Luck.

I got the certificate emailed to me a few hours after I completed everything. They should have made navigation through it easier. I saw the place where you could get to the certificate of completion after I did the test and took screen shot of the certificate with my android phone dont know if you can do it with an iPhone. There's a number on the cert that I'm figuring they can check out. Wonder how much this whole fiasco actually costs sportsmen. The enviro weenies held their breath and the FWC folded.

Actually, if FWC "folded", they would have shut the place down like they were being asked to do. In the end, they came up with a compromise (which seems to be a dirty word these days) that kept the place open for fishers, with relatively limited impact on what we do and how we catch fish. Take 15 minutes, take the course, and move on. If you hook or tangle a bird, or see some else do so, help out. Get the bird untangled and send it on its way. It's a hell of lot better than if the bird people had actually won.

I totally agree with this.. unfortunately this is the new "normal" we will have to start dealing with... even in a red-state like florida. Do the test and move on... it takes longer to read the replies and type a response than doing the test. However, i FIRMLY believe that not in 1 million years would they have shut down the skyway and essentially take all that free money it produces and throw it away... not to mention they would probably still have to shell out expenses in order to perform some gradual upkeep of the bridge even without use to keep it a non-safety hazard for boaters.. imagine taking one your highest profitable attractions and turning it into dead weight over Pelicans that cost money to maintain. As i type all of this out.. could you imagine if they did actually shut it down completely.... oh my. Id bet someone would of shutdown 275 in protest LOL.

The last thing that came to my mind is there is NO WAY, the person at money booth is the one who would be checking for your completed certification.
For multiple reasons:
A. The traffic jam/backup that would be caused from the individual vehicles spending multiple minutes having to find there certification to show.
B. If the vehicle did not have the required Ceritfications, does the booth worker then have to explain the new rules and the process to go about getting one.
C. If the Booth worker, WAS, the one who had to check certifications and then was forced to not allow indivudals onto the pier... would create total strife.
I will go out on a small limb and make a predicition. Give it 3 years, and the skyway will remove this rule or almost make it to where the test takes less than 5-10 minuites in totality while updating your license.
This will 100% affect the bottom line if they enforce this rule at the Pay Booth and they turn away anyone without the certification.

I have been fishing the piers for over twenty years and I have never seen anything as stupid as this; are they for real? Do I have to throw away all my lures with treble hooks because of the pelican police? Those old women should find something interesting to do at home, and leave us alone. I have helped people release birds though I myself have never hooked one. Nobody tries to hurt those birds; we love them just like everyone else. They want us to use barbless hooks; is that a joke? I live eighty miles away and I do not fish anywhere else, so this whole thing has me extremely upset. I am eighty five years old, and I cannot take much of this crap. I hope they are not serious.

To me it's an indirect 1st step to eventually close that old roadway. FWC knows most of the folks that fish there won't go through that online process and will stop fishing or fish somewhere else, and if anyone believes FOP are finished with their project I suspect you are mistaken. Carl, for someone that doesn't fish the piers you seem to have lots of opinions about them

I wonder how the authorities will deal with the many tourists who fish the piers. The snowbirds will have no knowledge of this test and they will start coming down within a few weeks...not to mention the spring breakers and short stay tourists between January and April.

I've offered advice on fishing techniques which are applicable to the SSP/NSP. And I've offered my opinions on the matters at hand. And I post reports when I do fish the piers, which is not often, and other reports. If I am out of line, the moderators can delete my account.

Not at all Carif, I'm wondering how long this mess will last when the FWC figures all the lost monies and compliance issues with anglers not following the rules,a year and by then it will go away, I hope.

Not asking you to leave carl, just trying to understand your stance on things....you downplayed the Piney Point incident, you support dredging in the bay, and now you seem to be 100% supportive of the new pier rules

Here is a couple more problems and a simple solution, the test says to were sunglasses when handleling the birds, the First person to get a eye taking out because the state said "sunglasses", this should of been "safty glasses" is going to win a big, big law suit ! Is the person at the entrance going to have a German accent, "papers please" !!! To make it simple, they should of printed a few suggestions on how to unhook a bird on the back of the recite they give you when you pay with a simple comment, please review the back of recite for instructions if you hook a bird.
