Went fishing with my wife from 930am to 1230pm. Tried the Gulf pier until 11am...terrible. Only caught a pigfish and lizard fish on CC spoon and pomp jig. Pier became crowded but hardly anything being caught. A couple who passed by said they only got an undersized mack. Tide started out very low and started coming in around 10am. Water was clear.
We decided to try the Bay pier and action much better Had a couple of hard hits on the spoon but no macks. But large pinfish were attacking the CC spoon, kept 7 between 7.5 to 8.5 inches. A number of tourists were watching me and a couple asked me to ID any fish they caught. Left at 1230 with the fish still biting. We were both hot and tired. My wife got alot of reading done and we had a picnic lunch break after changing piers.

Glad you came home with some fish. You had a nice day to go. It is funny how one pier can be better than the other.

So long as you have fun and out there that's just as important? To me anyway... better than the J.O.B.

I've eaten many "undesirables", but never had a pinfish. Just never caught one big enough.

I've eaten many "undesirables", but never had a pinfish. Just never caught one big enough. They don't get very large, biggest one I saw was 12 inches. Several people asked me about them, told them that those fish are a salt water panfish, like a bluegill.

The CC spoon worked better for larger pinfish vs shrimp that others who using. I eventually gave another angler my shrimp.

Pins aren't bad eating, like a bluegill. Just have to get them big enough! Scale, gut, season and wrap in tinfoil on a layer of onions & bake is how i like to do them.

Grouper are better, but when grouper is closed, just eat the bait! I thought I was the only one who kept the pigfish after no grouper bites.

I cooked and ate a 10 inch spot tail pinfish.... and it tasted nothing like bluegill... bluegill are sweet.... pinfish was like tilapia... no real taste, I just sauted in butter with a little Jane's crazy salt and pepper. To me at least... nothing I need to eat again unless I have too
